We had an amazing defense last season, and a lot of that hinged on the secondary. Personally, I think our secondary is vastly improved this year.

Revis has gotten better every year since he has been drafted. Exponentially. With the type of work ethic he has, and the amount of time he puts into watching tape and training, there is no reason to believe he can't improve on what he accomplished last season.

The type of talent Cromartie has, you can't teach. His pure athleticism and size are rarely seen in a corner. Hopefully the change to Rex's system from a zone in San Diego will let him return to form. He need to focus and be centered around football, and the change to New York and a dedicated coach will turn him around.

Out of all the first round selections the Jets have made the past few years, Kyle Wilson might have been the safest, surest pick they have made, maybe behind Nick Mangold. The consensus before the draft was that KDub would be nowhere close to dropping to the Jets, yet he did. I think Rex (and many Jets fans on this board) saw that it was a no-brainer to select Wilson. If something happened with Revis's contract, or Cromartie leaves in free agency, I believe KDub will be able to step in without missing a beat. Hes my early vote for best nickle corner in the NFL.

Also, now that we don't have a giant gaping vagina starting at FS, well see what an underrated player like Brodney Pool can do in our defense. Jim Leonhard was a revelation last year, and Eric Smith and James Ihedigbo are great role players. And im sure were all excited to see what Dwight Lowrey and Donovan Warren can do at safety.

    Year 2 of Rex's scheme.
If we can stop the run, its over.

With the 'No Fly Zone', 'Great wall of Jenkins' and 'Barbarians of the Midway' it will be up to the offense not give games away.

That likely changes if Donovan Warren sticks.

Can't wait to see our secondary perform this season, and they are getting a good workout everyday from our top notch WR corps, it should be tons of fun to watch them go head to head at the green and white scrimmage! oh and for them to shut down every passing attack they face this year

Because he is athletic and fast. Unfortunately, up to this point, he has displayed the play-recognition skills of a an excited young Saint Bernard. I had thought that he would be cut at the end of 2009/10, but maybe in camp.

Yeah I'd rather see Warren on the roster than Coleman. The exciting thing is maybe we can get a feel for stuff watching Hard Knocks this TC season!

Brodney Pool is either gonna be one of the most underrated pick ups of the off-season or one of the biggest dissapointments for us Jet fans. Luckily he's so under the radar that even if he doesn't produce the way most expect him to that only the fans that follow the Jets and hardcore football will know about this.

I'm gonna be optimistic and says he really turns heads and makes a name for himself.

He'll break the radar if he doesn't something horribly wrong in the first few games.

But up to this point yeah, he's been not really talked about at all.

We have too many players in the secondary, even in Rex's D. Brodney, Jim, D Lowery, Eric Smith and possibly Warren at the safety spot. Thats 5 safeties. I doubt if we leave enough space for a 6th safety in Ihedigbo unless D Lowery remains a CB (likely with our current roster).

Then we have Revis, Cromartie, Kyle Wilson, Coleman, and Cole as our corners (5). After Wilson, we really have no real depth at CB so I think Lowery will remain as a corner behind Kyle and might play a CB/S hybrid role.

Don't worry about this. People will be cut or traded. its deep in almost every position. WR has 9 (plus coles is 10). that's too much even if a bunch play Special Teams. QB has 5 and a half (Smith) so 2 need to go somewhere. RB has 5 so one most likely won't stick. 11 and a half(gholston) LB which is enough for 4 starters and backups for each of them again some on Special Teams but some will go. Every position will have cuts or trades when all said and done. Better to be deep now to help recovery from camp injuries or on the off chance a lightbulb goes off in someones head and they come out of nowhere alla brady

I'm excited about our defense this year and as most others our secondary in particular...

We really are stacked in this area...I'm thrilled w the CB depth...D.Lowery as our dime back? That is a good situation to be in...the jets have flexibility there...if wilson gets off to a slow start lowery and wilson are interchangeable...

I think a rotation at FS is clearlu the way to go...keep pool healthy, give smith his time on the field and play to his strengths...

Teams are going to have some serious trouble moving the football.

It won't surprise me to see KDub struggle at the nickel spot. He said himself it's way more challenging covering the slot guy because of the fact there's no sideline to protect him on one side. If that happens then I'm sure Lowery will take over until KDub can get a better hang of it. Cromartie is going to be a one year rental... the drafting of Wilson pretty much guaranteed that. But nonetheless I'm insanely excited to start this season and watch our JETS live up to and exceed everyone's expectations.

How much better can we be than 153.7 ypg allowed though? Also, the OP is being overly optimistic. Wilson the best nickel corner in the NFL already? What if he has a rough transition to the bigs? What if Cromartie flops and Poole proves to be a JAG? Those scenarios are just as likely as what the OP suggested. Let's assume reality will lie somewhere in the middle.

Pool (without the e) being a JAG wouldn't really be different than Kerry Rhodes last year.

Where can they improve quite a bit:

    1) More turnovers/points scored.
    2) Closing games.
    3) Allowing pass rush more time to create more sacks.

Yeah i wouldn't worry too much about this. Not sure where you are getting your info that Ihedigbo is the 6th safety. I think Ihedigbo could emerge as a starter this season.
