This is just another way of saying that you have no fucking idea what you're talking about. Let me give you some great advice - if you don't know anything about the situation, don't say anything. Mark Brunell was not signed to come in here and win games. He was signed to mentor Mark Sanchez. In his prime, Brunell was very similar to Mark Sanchez.
You didn't see the latest Hard Knocks interview with Mark Sanchez? He donated his right arm to charity and will now be a southpaw quarterback.
Let's be clear about one thing. I understand what Brunell was brought in to do. I just disagree with the approach. If his primary job is to be a mentor, then make him a coach. As far as the situation goes...the Jets are in win now mode... and if Brunell has to play, I am not confident that he can get it done.
Let's be clear about two things: 1. Brunell is basically going to be coach. He'll be holding a damn clipboard and relaying signals in from the sidelines during every game. 2. No backup quarterback available is a better mentor for Mark Sanchez. Yeah, we're a team that can win now...but we're not going to win without Mark Sanchez. If he goes down for a long period of time, our season is lost.
Bottom line, we all saw last year how much Clemens sucks. If your backup QB is going to suck, it might as well be an old guy that can mentor the young starter.
So you have the cheat code to implant in his head that will make him the 2nd QB coach on the Jets? Do you understand how stupid it is to have 2 QB coaches with none of them playing?
People getting very angry over a signing for a non-impact player. If there was an old LG for cheap would people be so mad to sign him to help out a rookie? You know he won't play and aren't shelling out much more then the vet minimum
Not to try to inject any reason into this discussion, but I think a lot of the passion in this thread is because there just isn't anything else going on right now to comment about.
There is a different relationship from teammate to teammate than player to coach. It is good to have a guy in the locker room that is like a coach, but not labeled one. And like MrE pointed out, if Sanchez goes down who really cares?
I guess most of you who feel a backup QB means nothing to a team don't remember the year we had Mirer and then Lucas which essentially killed our season. This team is extreamly talented and while it would be an absolute horror if anything were to take Sanchez down for any length of time it wouldn't necessarily mean our season would be lost. If it's not a big deal having a 40YO BU due to the fact that he will be carrying a clipboard and relaying signals and never see the field, then why all the calls for Clemens to be shipped out? Look, this is a mute point at this juncture but to say a 40 yo Brunell and 2 guys that never played a regular season down in the NFL is a smart way to go into the season, with a team that is designed to make a run at a SB,I don't agree.
Simply stated, we have a difference in opinion on the role of a backup QB. I want someone that can play, others want a mentor.
