7/26 J.Vazquez (8-7) vs. J.Westbrook (6-6) 7/27 C.Sabathia (13-3) vs. (edit: Josh Tomlin, AAA) 7/28 A.Burnett (8-8) vs. F.Carmona (10-7) 7/29 S.Mitre (0-2) vs. M.Talbot (8-9) Game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 6th off 2 solo shots from Hafner and Swisher. I just read somewhere Dustin Moseley will make the start instead of Mitre. Ill wait til its confirmed before I change it.
pretty double play turned thanks to canos arm. joe right back to making questionable pitching changes as he has robertson face 1 batter and brings in boone logan to face shin soo choo.
Mariano shuts it the fuck down after giving up a bloop broken bat single to lead off the inning. thanks for coming out folks.
one of my personal favorite wins of the night. hopefully this is a sign of things to come from Granderson.
Javy had a pretty good night. The pen really stood up too. I think it's very telling that even though Girardi said before the game that Joba was still probably his go-to guy in the 8th, both Robertson and Logan got the call and Joba got nothing. I still can't understand why he's not in AAA. Would a stint in the minors hurt his trade value? I'm glad Mitre is going back to the pen, but a little irritated that Moseley is getting the start. I really want them to bring up Nova. I want Montero, Nova and Albaladejo on the pro team. These guys are all set to be big players on the pro team. I'm curious to see how quickly Pettitte actually comes back too. Last I saw he wants to come back right away and it's the team holding him back. I understand, considering the Yanks have the best record in the sport and Pettitte's age, but if the guy is healthy, let him pitch.
Here's what the worst part about it was for me. From watching him, it doesn't look like that kid will even be in the majors in two years. His stuff just isn't that good. This was a typical "Yankees facing someone they have no film of and haven't faced before" beating them. It's something like the 7th straight rookie making his first MLB start to beat the Yankees. And the little turd had a smirk on his face the whole game. Wake up kid. When we see you again, you won't make it out of the third. Anyway, one bright spot, and I love it when he proves me wrong, was Brett Gardner's throw to home to nail Choo early in the game. Wow. Dead on the money. EDIT:BTW, I don't know if anyone else heard this, but the rumor is, Cliff Lee specifically said he wants to sign with either the Phillies or the Yankees in the winter. Why the Phillies, I don't know, considering they traded him away when they got Halladay plus they suck, but whatever. I'mn pretty sure that if he's even considering us as one of his two choices, the ball is in our court.
I'm kind of getting the same "inevitable signing" feeling about Lee that everyone got about Sabathia. If the Yankees covet someone, 9 times out of 10 they'll get him. I'd be surprised if Philly (or anyone) tops the Yankees' offer to Lee.
There's no way Philly tops the Yankees. First off, the Yankees can just flat out overpay him more. But then the Yankees also have the advantage of having CC here to recruit, and are clearly perennial contenders. The Phillies aren't showing much contending this year. I'd be shocked if Lee wasn't holding up a pinstriped jersey for the media less than a week after free agency begins.
Yankees up 4-0 in the middle of the second. Carmona's having a tough time out there...it sucks to be a ground ball pitcher when just about everything is finding a hole.
