Call me crazy, but I bet the Jets had a verbal contract with Donovan Warren not even halfway through the seventh round. All it would take is one Rex call. "If you fall out, I'll make you the best undrafted free agent in the history of the game." Something to that effect. I know this regime desperately wants to turn one of their UDFA's into a superstar. Warren signed within minutes of the draft's end. Rex and Pettine and Thurman are looking for Don Warren to become that star. I'd call him a surer bet to make the roster than Vernon Gholston.
This is a nice article but I have a difficult time taking what a dude named Rod Long writes seriously.........
I watched a lot of Michigan games last season, and thought Warren was the lone bright spot on that defense. I'm rooting for the kid, and think he'll do well.
I don't know how many people read this article, but it's a good one. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/05/undrafted_donovan_warren_deter.html
Evidently you didn't watch too much Michigan football if you didn't notice that Brandon Graham was the best player on the field just about every time he was out there.
I dont understand why colleges won't let a player come back for their senior season if they go undrafted? The more I read about the colleges (such as all this stuff about players not being allowed to speak to agents, them going mental about Bush etc) they really do come off very poorly - they make millions and millions of $$$ off the back of these kids and yet seem to want to go out of their way to make things difficult for them.
Our list of quality undrafted FA's continues to grow -- Jamaal Westerman, Mike DeVito, Brandon Moore, and James Ihedigbo and now possibly Donovan Warren.
and (technically) Jim Leonard & Bart Scott, although they were found by the Ravens and have since been signed to big contracts
What about Basped? He was getting some man love during rookie mini camp but I haven't heard much about him since. And there's also the LB from Hawaii that Rex has praised.
