It looks like it is a done deal. Instead of paying for 2 pre season games, we get an extra real game. With a little luck, the Jets will play a "home" game in someplace like Canton or Toronto. Just saying
Instead of 4 preseason and 16 regular season, there will be 2 PS and 18 RS. For season ticket holders, they give up one PS game and gain one RS for a total of nine "real" home games. As for sourcing, it is all over the net, ESPN Radio and the New York papers. Since it was widely reported, I left out sourcing completely. The only downside is players don't want it (more injury risk and no increase in pay), but it is expected to be part of the fallout of the next labor agreement. Worst case scenario - 2012, probably 2011. One source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/407279-18-game-schedule-more-cons-than-pros
Oh one extra HOME game. It sounded like you were saying they reached a deal to have 17 regular season games.
I fucking hate this. I think this will ruin many of footballs greatest records. Yards passing in a season, rushing yards in a season, TD's scored, etc. Not to mention careers being shortented and players getting hurt. I hate Roger Goodell and all of the greedy NFL owners. Why tinker with something that is already so great? Yuck.
I dont see anyone reporting this or stating this. All the websites that would have it done even mention anything about that. And there is nothing on twitter about it.
This thread should be removed until it happens. I do believe in will move to an 18 game season (which sucks, just make it 2 preseason games but dont add more) but it didnt happen yet and this is misleading
It was on NFL network saying they vote for it AUG 21-24 in a Owners meeting It will be effective earliest 2012
It was on ESPN Radio yesterday. They had a long discussion about how the Commish wants it to happen and he expects to get his way. They went on to discuss how ESPN employee Cris Carter was concerned (as a former player) that the change would shorten careers and that the players union would balk at the change. Their NFL guy, the nerdy guy with glasses - not Mort, said it was going to be voted on in August and would be approved by the owners. It is not a big secret that this is going to happen. Fans Win - not forced to pay for pre season games they don't want to see; Owners Win - easier to sell a real game then it is a preseason game. More TV revenues as well. Networks don't pay money to see PS game. Players Lose - As any idiot knows, football is a brutal game and careers are short. The Players Association wants "something" for the extra games and only time will tell if they get it.
Screw the records, what is this baseball? As a season tic holder, this is great, same price per year and one more home game. What's wrong with more football, do you get sore watching games? Is this Bob Costas posting or some wuss Jet fan?
The indication that is a "done deal" is that reporters are saying it is a "done deal." They are claiming they that have sources. If you don't believe the reporters, so be it.
99% of posters on this site have more credibility than Bleacher Report. /Dump THE NFL HAS ALREADY SAID THAT IF THIS CHANGE IS MADE IT WON'T BE DONE UNTIL AT LEAST THE 2012 SEASON.
Another excuse to raise ticket prices. 17-18 games is terrible for the fans and players, it's only good for the owners.
I would rather pay more for 9 real games + 1 pre-season game than I would for 8 + 2. Frankly, I wish they would do away with the preseason entirely. As for other posters - 2012 is the proposed date. They were correct. With respect to 2011, the issue is not changing the season - it is the possible lockout causing fewer PS games to be played.
