It's a valid concern. Folk is coming off a bad year, and Feely was pretty consistent with us. But letting go of Feely let us get a UFA (Jason Taylor) and if Folk can revert back to previous form, we have a good young kicker on our hands.

But Kaeding was supposed to be clutch and he shit the bed. Just goes to show that you can't 100% rely on a kicker at any point - no matter what the stats show.

I think Folk will be a good addition to the team.

Watched the Dallas-Buffalo MNF game from 2007 (?) the other night on ESPN here and Folk won it for the Cowboys with a series of career-long kicks. Looked good to me. And what a dramatic end to the game.

I can't believe no one mentioned Doug Brien. I mean everyone deserves a third chance?

I have come to realize that kickers, well there just kickers, unless there adam v. in his prime, kickers are all the same shit.

and as much as we all liked feely he missed two huge fg's in the afccg.

look it up ALL kickers are like 25 out of 31 on the season.

the question is can they make the long ones, and are they clutch?

Imo most who dump Doug Brien are/were Chad Fans. Ftr, the Jets should not have had to depend on him making that FG, and of course it didn't help losing two yards the play before. Thanks to Hermtite.

Folk is coming off a bad year in which he struggled mostly due to an injury. In 2007 (as a rookie) and 2008 there weren't 5 better kickers in the league than him. He's a good kicker. Jay Feely was nothing special. Proved once again in last years AFC Championship Game that in a big moment, most of the time he will fuck it up.

I have to admit I'm concerned. I watched the NFL network game summaries for all our 2009 playoff games. Whenever a kicker would miss, which was remarkably often in those games, one of the guys would say he Folk'ed it.

I guess we'll see soon enough.

Maybe because he's one of the leagues best kickers?

Because he is one of the most accurate regular season kickers in NFL history. He's just a horrific postseason kicker.

Kaeding would be better off in a place like Cleveland, where you never win.

So he made some horrible mistakes when the game was on the line, but his past performance makes him one of the best kickers in the league. That about right?

Isn't that pretty much how Folk's career looks so far?

Every kicker in the NFL is one of the best until they're not.

    That's what I couldn't understand.
Why would you wish anyone on our team failed?

No, it's not nowhere near how folks career looks. Folk had one good year, other than that, vey average. Kaeding has had several very good years. Big damn difference.

None of those stats matter if you can't make kicks in the playoffs.

Exactly, that's what all this comes down to. It's great that he's making kicks in practice but we need to see him handle pressure

3 seconds on the clock down by 2 and Folk is lining up for a 47 yard FG. That's where it really counts.

Fortunately we can only base Folk's Playoff performance back to 2007 when he made a 35+ yarder or so. Going into this season where the expectations are "Playoffs or Bust" with a 1/1 FG Playoff record is pretty awesome and gives me all the confidence in the world that he won't miss in the AFCCG when the game is on the line.
