I called last week with the intention of not renewing ST (I was on auto-renew and it showed up on my bill), and the CSR offered me $20 off for 6 months plus free DVR service for 6 months ($7/month). So, I re-upped ST for $138 without having to scam them, which is important to me since I work with law enforcement.

And Directv is ALWAYS running these deals for customers. You just have to call to ask. I don't think it hurts your ability to get deals down the road. I've been a Directv customer for 10+ years and frequently change my service depending upon what deals they are promoting.

As for new subscribers, they have all sorts of deals for signing up with them. If you are signing up, get a referral from a friend and you BOTH get an extra $100 credit off your bill. I'd be happy to be the referral guy if you want to contact me via pm or email.

I live in Rochester, so the Bills get first shot at broadcasts around here. Besides, I love having all the games. Now I'll have to go to a bar instead of watching it in the comfort of my own home.

A few things you should know about the Sat companies, first, down in Mia as far as DTV, there are people there that are cloning subs. I know right now where you can get every channel and all the sports packages with NY locals anywhere in the country for 799.00 a year per receiver....

If you wish to share a sub, as long as you don't get more then 4 receivers and tell the company, Dish or Direct, that you have no land line and only use cells, they will never know where or care about the location of the receivers. Pay you bill on time and the companies would be happy if they never heard from you in hundred years.. I know at least 20 people who have been sharing a sub for years. The only thing you need to do is put up your own dish. An you don't have to pay for those, there are so many empty houses with dishes for the taking or simply buy on on craiglist or ebay for almost nothing. Catch any installer in the area and they will mount and line it up for you in 30 minutes for 50 bucks with the RG6 thrown in for good measure. With the emergence of the internet, even if you don't have access to line of sight for either company, you can find some way to catch your games.

Sorry to tell you IATA there is a ton of (stuff) going on in the real world that the Cable or Sat companies know about but can do very little about. An most of the Signal Intergrity units are too small to do anything about the thousands of little guys, finding a way around big business.

That's a nice corporate outlook, but I know for a fact that if you call DTV a few times and find the right rep, you can get a ton of money off any of their packages. Corporate models aren't reality in most cases.

My degenerate, douchebag cousin buys hacked dishes/receivers.

Eventually DTV catches up to the codes and then new ones are released. He has every single thing offered on DTV for free.

Did I mention he was a scumbag?

They went to 300 this year, the regular rate was 250 last season.

It's not really foolproof. You will get plenty of CSRs that will not budge on anything, and some that will work with you.

It might take 2 or 3 levels of escalation before you hit the right "termination manager," but they are always willing to give on something. If you make it very clear that since you're out of contract that you can go elsewhere for the same service, for alot less, they tend to try and work with you.

of course, your explanation doesn't change my assertion. the claim was under the guise that you are deceiving them and they aren't smart enough to catch on. if they don't give a fuck either way, you aren't pulling one over on anyone.

I'd rather not be as smart as I think I am than not be smart enough to grasp such simple premises. next time you want to attempt to insult someone, try not to actually than lay out an explanation that actually only validates their claim.

you guys are getting raped by DTV......i pay 180 bucks (that's with taxes incl.) for Sunday Ticket in HD up here in America's Hat.

180 bucks in Canadian dollars should equate to 20 bucks American. :)

I don't pay as much as you do but I know how to work the cancellations people well enough. I would argue that anyone subscribing to Sunday Ticket is getting raped.

    250 dollars is fucking outrageous.

I don't mind paying for service (i'd rather not, but we all know that's now how the world works)....but i have my limits.

You're paying close to $200 to watch football games. If DTV didn't have an exclusive deal with the NFL, you'd probably be getting it for 40 bucks.

I call BULLSHIT on TV providers.

Not your policy - but that's some serious bullshit. We have a seasonal (shore) house and only want cable for 4 months a year. So we are less valuable? Is it my fault the shore house is with cable co 1 and my main house is in area with cable co 2? Why can't I break the monopoly and just get cable from the same company.

Considering the cost of TV services these days, its a big rip. FIOS is a huge rip cause after your 2 year initial "deal" wears off, the cost is stratospheric. I agree with paying a premium for premium programming - HBO, Sho, MC, PB, NFL, Baseball, etc. But basic cable? Silver vs Gold packages? Its BS. A bunch of crappy channels I'll never watch? C'mon.

How about cable/sat programming "a la carte". This way I can order the 17 channels we actually watch....

We have that in Canada. A La Carte is available on Bell Satellite in Quebec right now. $15 for the basic package and then you select...$15 for 15 channels, $19 for 22 channels and $22 for 30 channels. $5 bucks for "The Favorites"(20+ of the most popular channels...CNN, Spike, etc...).

Hopefully it expands to entire of Canada next year.

Like I said, they know when sigs are being stolen and split up, but 95% of the time they chose to ignore it, because in the end they are still getting paid. Should these people begin to become "problem" customers, we don't hesitate to make changes.

Would love to see it come to the US- there's been talk of such a "menu" system. Makes sense for me, as there's all of 15 channels that the family probably watches. Do you really need to charge me for "Oxygen, Lifetime and Hallmark" channels?
