I read this up on finheaven. Most of you might know it aswel. Here's the trick to get the Sunday NFL ticket for just $80:

    For Old Customers:

Call them and tell them that you want to cancel your sevices cause they are expensive and cable offers better packages. Also tell them that NFL Sunday Ticket is too expensive and you can't afford it.

They will give you $20 off for 6 months ($120 total discount). Tell them $20 is not enough to keep you with DirecTV. If you are lucky, they may also offer you a $100 credit. So you'd get $220 discount. NFL Ticket is for $300 for regular customers. You'd be paying $80.

    For New Customers:

They will give you EVERYTHING they have to offer for just $82 a month (for first five months). It includes EVERY channel that is not PPV, Sunday NFL Ticket, all HDs, DVR, and four rooms with three rooms being HD. Now if I leave my post right here, it would look like Im trying to promote DirecTV. I'm not. So here's the trick:

Get two or three friends who want NFL ticket as well. Order four receivers. Get em installed in your place. If you live in a one bed apartment, tell the installer to just activate all the receivers. If he asks you only have one room, tell him you are moving next week to a house. Once all activated, split the receivers. All your friends would need is a satellite. Then share the bill between FOUR people. It would be $90 (82 plus tax) a month, averaging around $23 a month EACH.

If you don't want their services and just want to do this for the Sunday NFL Ticket, do as I will do. Suspend the services at the end of January. Tell em you are going out of country for atleast six months for a job requirement (whatever). Then have it reactivated in August and buy the NFL Sunday Ticket. This time, you'd be paying the normal price, plus the normal package (lowest one is I believe around $30 a month). Suspend again in January with the same excuse and the cycle continues.

I work for a TV company, and this is a terrible idea and probly won't work very often. Most companies now are more inclined to let you walk than to give you free service over and over. The notes we keep are extensive and if you are a repeat caller, your "customer value" goes down. Low customer value = smaller offers.

Also, your idea of having people split it in multiple areas is illegal and most likely getting caught would get you prosecuted for signal theft. And it's easy to catch someone.

Apparently, all the Dolphin fans are getting this deal. What is the point of having a high customer value when you can't use it to get a discount...a big $220 discount? Money would be more important to me than high customer value, but people can make up their mind about it.

I was all set to cancel Sunday Ticket for the 2009 season with the legit excuse of having to save money due to having an infant son. I could cancel because living in the NY market I would still be able to watch all the Jets games. I subscribed to ST back in 2000 because I hated getting stuck watching the Giants most Sundays in the other afternoon slot.

So the customer service rep saw that I've been a ST subscriber since 2000 and hated to see me give it up. She presented me a deal to stay on board for half off. I accepted that.

you can always call and attempt to get a discount, no secret there, so it isn't as if this suggestion is some secret way to pull it off.

and the idea of splitting receivers is just too asinine to comment on. only idiots think everyone else is stupid enough to fall for the "I'm moving next week, activate them all now" nonsense.

shocked that this was on a Fins site. utterly shocked.

Not only that, but the Dolphin Fan Plan, as we'll call it, is complicated. It's not fun being on the phone with the D-TV reps for simple matters, but now these Dolphins fans are suggesting we call D-TV to get four receivers installed in an apartment and then lie about a move to a house. Then we should give three of the receivers to friends so they can illegally receive Sunday Ticket. Yes, a fine plan it is.

It worked with me, so if you have no clue about it, please don't comment.

Well its not like it doesn't happen. Besides, what about the hundreds of users watching NFL streams? It sure is illegal, but monopoly isn't legal either and DirecTV has its own monopoly over Sunday NFL Ticket.

People like to lie. Customer value diminishes over time. You gain it by having high value packaging, good consistant payment history, etc.. You almost assuredly have a very low value, because you suspend you services, thus are not paying full programming value year round. You're not going to get all of the offers available because of that.

Companies are able to see where receivers are. We can see that you have 4 receivers in 4 locations, and when we decide we want to remove you, we will. Start complaining about things. Start calling in every month for discounts. Treat a CSR like shit. Miss a few payments. Bet your ass we will without warning shut down all the receivers and leave you without a contract. I do it. I've seen it done.

Now, as far as "I'm moving next week, activate them all". You're not as sneaky as you think you are. If 4 receivers are on the workorder, 4 get activated, irregardless.

Having an exclusive contract in which you pay fair market value isn't a monopoly, son.

I am curious when Sunday Ticket went to $300
It used to be $150 or there about for me and that was less than 2 years ago.

Also, it sounds like you just did this so to act as if it is fool proof and tell people they don't have a clue might be a bit early.

Im just passing the message. I know the new customer deal I mentioned is for real since I'm doing it. I saw atleast 15 posters on finheaven get $20 off for 6 months plus an additional $100. I figured I'd pass the word around here too so fellow Jets get the deal too. Some of you know how to work around to get the discounts. Most of us don't.

Only thing I can tell you is that I had DirecTV last year and got the $20 discount myself as well. This year I signed up as a new customer under my wife's name.

So how did you get around the whole "2 year contract" thing?

Which deals? I don't work for any satellite company so I don't know. But which deals do you not get that you would having a high customer value?

The only way that is possible (that I know) is if you have the receivers connected with the phone line. Either way, I've seen people doing it for years without any trouble so I really could care less if they can find out where the receivers are.

I know. Four receivers will get activated, and that's what I said as well.

I don't think it's that bad to not have it anymore. NFLN replays the best games during the week. You always get at least two Sunday afternoon games, the Sunday night game, and the Monday night game.
On a terrible week in the NY market, let's say the only Sunday afternoon games are the Jets and Giants ones. If those two games are duds and so are the night games, then you'll still get to see seven games that week with the three NFLN re-airs.

This is why I have considered cancelling my Sunday Ticket subscription. ST is overvalued for the Jets fan that lives in the NY market. It is much better for a Jets fan living in Ohio or Florida, for example.

The 4 receiver thing should work fine if you don't care about stealing. The people who install the equipment for direct tv are local subcontractors who could give two shits if you're stealing from DTV.

Exactly...sometimes JB thinks he's waaaaay smarter than he is.

The guys who actually show up to your house to install are just regular guys like us, more than willing to "hook you up". The guy that did mine hooked me up with a bunch of free equipment and ended up hanging out and smoking a bowl before he left. Even a glass of lemonade goes a long way...

AFA my account, the lady with whom I signed up led me to believe I would be able to get the $30 package deal after the season, but when the time came, they said I could only have the lowest base plan for that price, so I suspended my account until September (FYI: they only allow 6 months of suspended service per 12 month period).

I have now moved into an apartment that, thankfully, faces north. Since all their satellites are south of North America, no southern line-of-sight means they can't provide service. This should allow me to terminate my contract without the $360 or so in fees. We shall find out next month...
