One day perhaps you'll understand the real meaning of "great"..It certainly does mean perrenial All Pro or even HOF as that is the true measure of "greatness" as opposed to one outstanding season. If Revis is still playing at this level in the 5th, 6th or even the 10th year of his career, then talk to me about "great". Right now?, He's very very good..

again were not talking about the hof. for the 2010 season revis is a top 3 defensive player in the nfl.
Cases in point: Brian Urlacher & Ray Lewis. Neither of them are in the HOF yet, but they are considered "great". Why? Because they've passed the test of time. They've performed at a extremely high level for many seasons. They are among the elite of their position and have been considered that by not only their fans, but by their peers. That's my criteria for considering anyone "great". You don't have to be a HOF'er, but you do have to be "Perrenial". I'd be glad to have this same discussion with you 5 years down the road. No one can dispute Revis '09. When Revis '15 is still a All Pro, then yeah, call him "great". When Harris is mentioned alongside Singletary, Butkis, Lewis and Urlacher in '15, call him "great". Until then, "very good" or even "the best" is good enough for me.
thats why people distinguish with the preface all-time, as in all-time great ... revis is a great defender, youre getting into semantics and arguing for no reason
I'm saying we have different criteria for calling a player "great". If one or two good years is enough for you to call a player "great", fine by me. Knock yourself out. For me, its not enough. I don't use the term "great" like you do. To me, if you don't produce over a long period of time, you're not "great". That's not to be confused with "all time great" as there is a difference between "great" and "all time great". Your metrics used for evaluation are different as you have a larger body of work to examine. Semantics? Probably a generational thing going on here. Like I said, in 2015, lets see if "Revis Island" still exists. By then, he would have been at least a 5 time All Pro if he keeps playing at this level barring injury and/or radical change (team, CS, etc..). Same for Harris. To me, they will have earned the honor of being considered "great". Please feel free to call them whatever you want. This is still a free country for the time being..
