Brian McCann with a three run double! Thornton comes in with runners at the corners and 2 outs, and walks a guy and allows a double. Thornton now yanked.
Holliday dropping balls in left field in high profile games. What else is new? and in an LA-area stadium, to boot.
NL wins!!! Girardi burned his bench too early. I know you want to get guys in the game, but you have to save more than A-Rod for pinch-run/pinch-hit in the 9th.
Everyone in the stadium, TV , Booth knew that was gonna drop... Everyone except Ortiz...Way to kill a rally Big Sloppi! No such thing in an All star game... Everyone needs to play...what , you want him to have 10 guys available in the 9th?
Which yet again shows why using the result of this game to determine something that actually matters is completely ridiculous.
Not everyone needs to play. Check past All Star Games. Most guys play, but there are always a few guys that are being saved and never get into the game. There are very few All Star Games where everyone actually played. No, not 10 guys. More like having two or three bench guys and two or three pitchers, which isn't a big deal when you have 34 man rosters.
no question. Very nice spin and throw from Byrd. An accurate one for once, given all the bad throws we saw in the game.
Girardi took a page out of the Jerry Manuel guide to managing a baseball club last night. why did he not either use ARod to pinch run or even better PINCH HIT FOR KINSLER?! fucking idiot, i bet i could win a WS with that roster too.
Yeah, first pitch was a hit, the Cubs RF saved another hit, but he did get two guys out and the save. Better than the playoffs the past two years or the Yankee Sunday night game. He's money against teams like the Pirates and Brewers though when nobody is watching.
As jeff said, this showed once again why having the All-Star game count for anything is a stupid idea. Anyway, while Ortiz's mistake on the bases was big, it's not his fault the AL lost. He did exactly what a baserunner is supposed to do there, go halfway. He's slow. That's why the throw beat him, and only barely so. Joe Girardi lost the game, and not because he used up his whole bench. He lost it because he wanted to wait to give ARod the chance to be the super hero, rather than send him up to tie the game. Rodriguez should have hit for Kinsler. You play for the tie at home Joe. This isn't rocket science. Anyway, congrats to the NL. That was a helluva drought and there is some really exciting pitching in the National League this year. The only other thing I'll say is, if they're really going to continue to insist that this game count, it needs to start earlier. I don't care that the west coast needs to be home. Ending at midnight is ridiculous.
the time it was scheduled for wasn't that bad, but then instead of starting they did a ton of non-baseball crap to waste everyone's time. First pitch wasn't until 8:50 PM EDT. Had it started at 8:20 like it was supposed to, no biggie. That's in line with the World Series.
