He has no choice...if he holds out he loses a yr of free-agency and $$. He's no savior if he "doesn't hold out". He's just honoring a contract he signed. Better hope he doesn't get hurt. LMAO

Tell me why Revis is a "selfish, insecure man who happened to have a breakout year".

    LDO?

Yeah his demands are large but Jetsfan711 claims he "knew Revis prior to the negotiations" which is what I'm questioning.

$6mil a yr is not a very small salary in a rookie contract. Don't just look at the base salary. That's deceiving cuz it totally ignores all the guaranteed money he has already bagged in. He got the best deal ever at the position he was selected/drafted at. He really needs to realize that.

That's an interesting phenomenon with Twitter, and why it makes the public part of the negotiations through the media that much more important.

Players on Twitter get the direct reaction from the fans about anything that happens. That wasn't the case a couple of years ago. This is the whole reason for the leaks about Leon's inflated contract offer and the infamous $20mil contract demand that Darrelle Revis knew nothing about.

I've known Revis for a long time and yes, he's always been very insecure and selfish, so it's no wonder that the people he chooses to surround himself with are people that only tell him what he wants to hear and not what he NEEDS to hear. Why would they tell him anything different, none of them are qualified to do much of anything so without their meal ticket (Revis) they would be up shits creek w/ out a paddle.

Everyone knows Revis can sit out 10 games, show up for week 11, and not miss a season of service time, correct? Given his relatively small salary this year, and given how focused the Jets are on winning this year, the aggressive move for Revis would be to hold out most of this year (or even this year and next year) to try to get the Jets to extend him.

Revis can't afford to sit out games, if he does his value will plummet to the team and if were winning games, we'll most likely pursue a trade

Revis has a option to void his contract at the end of 2010. Then the Jets would have the ability to buy back the remaining two years on his current deal at $20 million guaranteed.

If Revis misses mandatory time due to a hold out, he also loses out on some of the guaranteed money for the 2011 and 2012 season.

Um, that's exactly why he would hold out.

Now, I have seen reports saying he has to report by August 10th to have this year count towards free agency, but seeing how he's not a free agent for a few years anyway this isn't as big a threat to him

That is not the case this year because the CBA was allowed to expire; any player under contract has to show up by August 10 or he loses the year of service time. That does not apply to players not under contract, such as restricted free agents who don't sign a tender offer; they must sign by November 16, or they cannot play this year.
