    Mets Like Ted Lilly

    Jul 08, 2010 8:11 AM EST
The Cubs are getting more serious about potential trades and the Mets appear to have interest in Ted Lilly, according to Newsday's Ken Davidoff.

New York would have to take on Lilly's salary, but they wouldn't have to give up as many prospects as they would for a more coveted-pitcher.

fly ball. He'd be a nice fit for Citi. I still think the guy for you guys to get is Oswalt, the price will be too high on Lee. Oswalt will cost a big commitment next year, but there's no way the Astros ask for TOO much as they'll get out of the financial commitment. Lee will cost Thole, Mejia and another prospect out of f mart, tejeda or the second baseman (forgot his name) where you could get Oswalt for much less. But Lilly would be a less expensive yet very viable option as a third starter for the Mets, and would leave them the ability to also get a right-hander out of the pen.

I've always liked Lilly. i think he would be a good pickup that wouldnt cost too much. i wonder if we can get Zambrano from them as well, picking up either one or both would be awesome

    Santana
    Pelfrey
    Lilly
    Dickey
    Neise

makes for a pretty consistent rotation

I certainly hope that this doesn't mean that the Mets aren't talking to Houston about Oswalt, since he's a far better pitcher than Lilly.

Zambrano is a piece of shit. Haven't the Mets had enough clowns through the years? Mel Rojas, Armando Benitez, Oliver Perez, One Third Glavine, etc. Enough with the assholes.

Lilly would be a good addition.

I'm thinking Texas or Tampa Bay will get Oswalt, in part because he'd likely be willing to go to either of those teams. I don't know that Oswalt would want to pitch in New York. I'm thinking he wouldn't like it there, much like Eddie Whitson, Black Jack McDowell, Randy Johnson and others who couldn't quite cut it there.

Who would they have to give up? I'm hoping basically no one.

Ted Lilly's no ace, but he's a more than capable 3rd starter and he's a lefty. That 5 man rotation Roboz(?) listed would be a good one. If you could get Oswalt and have him under control for another year that's not such a bad thing either. Safe to say, Lee's not coming here. You know what? I like our prospects and I'd rather keep them. You can't put Niese or Davis into ANY trade, let alone for a guy who might walk in November.

Ted Lilly>Maine and Perez. Don't have to give up much for him and gets to move the Jap back to the bullpen which badly needs help.
