Has anyone a quote or even a reliable news source that shows the Jets are willing to get an experienced backup (other than Clemens, of course)?
http://www.footballnewsnow.com/2010/backup-qb-changes-likely-for-jets-brunell-in-clemens-out/ Thought the source is actually Cimini.
A no, in other words. Well, the only important thing here is what actually happens, and as I said yesterday, I would not be at all surprised if the Jets do not get Brunell.
Maybe you misunderstood me. I wasn't talking about Brunells prime. I was talking about Brooks prime. At age 40, Brunell is about as good as gone.
No one is against the development. But its not a players job to start developing QBs. If we want to sign Brunell to help Marks development, why not sign a coach instead? That is exactly what coaches do. KC is not a holder. It doesn't matter if he can or can not hold the football for a FG kick. Tony Romo couldn't do it either, didn't make him a an absolute joke of a QB.
Why Im hung up one game? Cuz thats what he is now. Do u really think we can pick a game from his prime and start comparing him to KC? Maybe we can pick Vinny's best game and start comparing him to KC. Reason why I picked his last game is because he hasn't played any other game in the last three years. U can't pick a game that is four years old and say, this is what we'll be getting. Not at age 40. Again, I saw him with the Jags but wasn't my focal point of the NFL. Still, we are not getting Brunell from the time he was a Jag. We are getting a QB that is 40 years old, been sitting on couch for months, and hasn't played a meaningful snap in more than three years. Thats who Im comparing KC with and Brooks with. Brooks was so terrrible, that is what Brunell will be. Thats all I meant.
You said you'd pick a guy that can play. Brunell hasn't played in three years besides one game. The one game he did play, didn't exactly look like a super star. What we will get will be even washed up.
Fair enough as far at it goes. I don't think that alone means they are committed to getting a veteran backup.
Your argument makes no sense because there should be no reason why Brunell and Clemens can't both be backups on the Jets. The problem is, Clemens sucks and will be cut in favor of Kevin O'Connell or Eric Ainge. Your argument should be about Clemens vs. O'Connell/Ainge and not Brunell
to those who think that we are wasting our time with brunell bc we don't need him/get a coach instead.... during a game, the coaches sort have their hands full. you know dealing with all the other players on the team, and things like coaching. its this time that a seasoned vet has a huge impact. in the heat of battle. that's not to say the OC of any team won't sit down with the QB to go over shit... but if there's a glaring hole they're going be dealing with a lot of other shit too... having someone on the sidelines who isn't involved with dealing with all the other facets of the game is huge. now you say, that's what a QB coach is for... and i agree.... but it certainly doesn't hurt to have another "coach" who's been there pretty recently to offer advice either. failing to see that is silly. having said that, i hope brunell does come here, and i hope he isn't swayed by the bulger $$$
Why would I compare KC against Ainge/Connell? We are talking about releaseing KC and signing Brunell.
bc he'd be more valuable than the current backup, if only for experience ( read: game time situations ). which, judging by the past couple pages, you're in teh minority on whether or not you agree with that statement.
We have a QB coach already. Why dump him? Mark has 1 year of experience with his QB Coach. Brunell still has the ability to play if need be. Our QB Coach doesn't. The QB isnt going to be in the 'mix' like a signed QB will be. I'm sure Sanchez will look up to Brunell for what he has done in this league(Yeah I know he hasnt won anything, but hes played for over 14 years, and thats impressive alone) He has held before, and failed at it. That was me trying to pile on the shit of Kellen Clemens. Comparing Romo, and Kellen Clemens in any aspect is outrageous.
QB coach Matt Cavanaugh. NFL veteran of 10+ seasons. If the QB coach isn't paying attention to Sanchez during the game then what else would the QB coach be worrying about. That argument doesn't hold water. I still believe Brunell, even at this stage of his career, is an upgrade over Clemens though.
^Im not talking about dumping the current QB coach. But if I had the choice to pick a QB between Brunell and KC to play, I'd pick KC. If I had the choice, I would rather not pick either of them. As long as the backup QB doesn't see the field, I really could careless who we are bringing in. No more debate on this from my part.
What makes you think that either one of them would end up playing? It's been reported in a couple of places that O'Connell and Ainge seem to be competing for the backup spot. Honestly, if we get to the 3rd QB on our depth chart, the season isn't going so well anyway.
it's a totally different dynamic to bring in Brunell. He is being brought in to be a coach of sorts but he will have a different relationship with Sanchez than any coach will. They will practice together, sit in meetings together, lift weights together, see the other one get chewed out by a coach, etc. Is this a necessary thing for Sanchez to develop into a great qb? No, but it's not gonna hurt.
