I don't get it. The Packers are ranked 1st because they got 24 interceptions despite being ranked 11th in sacks, and the Jets are ranked 2nd even though they stll managed to dominate in terms of completion percentage and yards per pass despite being ranked last in sacks among this group?
The article also has Lowery playing corner again this year. Reports are as most here have heard, I think, that he's likely being moved to safety.
I agree, good points. In general stats based on pure numbers rather than averages can be misleading, because the numbers standing alone do not show such things as how often a passing D is being attacked rather than run on. Now the average based stats you mention do not directly do that, either, but they do indirectly, at least in this sense. A team that opponents know has the best pass D completion percentage number and yards per pass number is, all other things being equal, going to be attacked less through the air than on the ground, and will see fewer opportunities to get interceptions.
If you look at their opponents last year, I'm shocked at the # of TD's they allowed. The QB's they faced: Carson Palmer Mr Int- Jay Cutler Bulger Favre Stafford Quinn J. Freeman Romo A. Smith Flacco Roethlisberger Seneca Wallace
so what if green bay is a little overrated? were still rated right around where we should be. we have a new #2 and #3 corner and a new FS at this point, id rate cincys and new orleans secondaries ahead of ours
Thank goodness this guy has nothing to do w/ our team anymore. How can an expert use INts as the barometer for ranking secondaries? yeah that GB secondary picked off alot of passes but they got burned a hell of alot too. I don't know if our secondary is the best but I know 29 TDs allowed compared to 8 by our guys favors us. he's like one of those guys that tells us Ty Law had a great season in 2005 b/c he had 10 INts although he was getting burned all over the field that year.
because the Green Bay secondary looked so good in the playoffs against Arizona i guess Disappointed in Kirwan, he's smarter than that
You know what's funny?--> . Is he really a senior analyst? I don't think he should be consider an analyst at all. To me, he is just an average Joe doing blogging out of his moms basement looking for attention from the real world.
I love listening to Kirwan on Sirius and find him really insightful there, but these comments are just plain dumb
I wonder if its because there's always someone else with him on Sirius to keep him in check. I've never really heard him make too many boneheaded comments like this on Sirius before. I don't know much about how he was with the Jets FO.
Yes, I can't explain that. I screwed up. I should have said he's probably going to be the dime corner, not the nickel that article referred to.
The only secondary I'd even consider better than the Jets is the Bengals and even that is a stretch. They have the best CB tandem, though.
No, you were mostly correct. You probably based it on the same thing I do, an article where he mentions that the coaching staff thinks he can make an impact in a safety position. The thread: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=57370&page=3 The article: http://nyj.scout.com/2/979281.html Now granted, as you said, it'll be more along the lines of him being an additional corner in packages, rather than a true safety, but I think it's still valid, and I expect him to play more safety in rotation with that group than I do as a corner.
I don't recall him playing any safety reps at the practice. Not that it counts as evidence he won't, but I much more prefer him as our dime CB. Pool/Smith/Warren should be battling for safety time. I want Lowery battling Wilson.
Wow, just wow. Did the guy watch any football last season? At all? Realize Rhodes was benched because of the missed assignments and lack of big plays? This is a senior writer. I'm very disappointed.
I don't really check them out often, not more than rarely, but fwiw there's a thread on JI beginning with a blog piece about Lowery playing safety, fwiw. Fwiw. Heh.
