@Adam_Schefter Filed to ESPN: The Ravens and former Rams quarterback Marc Bulger reached agreement on a one-year, $3.8 million deal.

3.8 million... did we really want to pay a questionable backup that much money? I'm hoping Brunell comes cheaper...

Most likely. I wonder which current Jets QB (or QBs) will get the axe if we add Brunell. My first guess would be Clemens, and then probably Ainge.

Before OTAs, I would have said O'Connell instead of Ainge, but from the reports it seems like OConnell is looking pretty good out there. I think Ainge must be a bad practice QB. He was getting ripped apart the last few years in OTAs and TC, but looked pretty decent in preseason.

They are making a Super Bowl run and don't want it to completely hinge on Flacco's health. Bulger isn't a bad guy to throw in if Flacco goes down. Certainly better than any backup we have. But I understand us not wanting to spend that much money on one. We need it in other places.

I agree, solid vet, if a bit injury prone. But a solid backup that can be a spot starter.

Does Tom Tupa ring a bell?

Not having a backup with that good of a team could tank a season in a hurry.

I still don't know why so many people think Joe Flacco is a good quarterback.

Mark Brunell is a game manager. If Sanchez gets injured, Brunell would be able to win a few games by taking care of the football. Our defense and running game are strong enough to win games against most of our opponents.

Bulger doesn't protect the football like Brunell does.

Sounds like Cimini's talking to himself at this point. Reading it for comedy value.

Could the Bulger deal impact the Jets' plans?

    By Rich Cimini

It will be interesting to see if the Baltimore Ravens' acquisition of backup QB Marc Bulger for the outlandish amount of $3.8 million on a one-year contract will have a trickle-down effect on the Jets.

From all indications, the Jets are planning to sign backup QB Mark Brunell on or after July 24, when the "Final Eight" restrictions are lifted. Neither Brunell nor Bulger is close to what he used to be, but will Bulger's stunning deal drive up Brunell's asking price? Many figured Brunell would sign for the minimum ($860,000 for a player with his experience), but now you have to wonder. This premise, of course, is based on the assumption that Brunell doesn't already have a handshake deal in place with the Jets.

The Jets, as you know, haven't been throwing around much cash this offseason. Here's another question: What if the Ravens decide to part ways with backup Troy Smith, who could be the odd-man out in their quarterback mix? Rex Ryan knows Smith from his days as a Ravens assistant. Would the Jets be interested? I doubt it. They have young quarterbacks; what they need is a seasoned veteran.

Bulger would've been a better choice than Brunell because he has more football left than the almost-40 journeyman, but there's no way the Jets were going to play $3.8 million. Like the Jets, the Ravens are in a Super Bowl-or-bust mode, except they're willing to pay a premium for quarterback insurance. The Jets, apparently, are not.

Almost figured Bulger would go to Chicago to be Cutler's backup with the Mike Martz system and all

Bulger is making more than Flacco this year... He's making $3.8M while Flacco is making $2.66M

That is just ridiculous... :breakdance: Flacco will be looking for a new deal soon enough though. And I'm sure he'll be getting more than Bulger.

Wow.. I would be pissed off if I was Flacco.

Wonder if Bulger will try to pull anything in TC, and boast himself for the number 1 role.

Although Ray Ray would quickly tell him to pipe down, and get stabbed.

    Crazy.

I couldn't believe when I read it that Bulger was actually getting $3.8 million for ONE YEAR as a back-up QB to Joe Flacco. Insane. Good thing for Flacco is after 2010 or 2011 he will be landing a nice $80-100 million contract.
