The one thing that Brunell tops out over KC is with experience. So you don't like that he's at the washed-up end of his career... the guys been in the league a long time and that can be a good presence to have on the sidelines with a young guy playing. If it comes down to our back up playing we are screwed in either case of who you choose between these guys. But KC offers absolutely nothing except maybe he gets "look good" points holding a clip board. He may even be more expensive than Brunell at this point, although I haven't checked.
Maybe Im delusional, but I think KC can manage a run first offense for a couple of weeks better than Brunell, if need be. KC is better than Brunell. Brunell 14 years of experience is NOT going to help us in a season when we are going all out.
Kellen Clemens' performance against Tampa Bay last season was one of the most unpleasant things I've seen for a long time - is Brunell really worse than that? Is Ainge? Also, if as is expected we're going to see the Jets set up as a far more balanced offence this year is it not going to be more difficult to revert to a run first game? At least last season the offence just had to keep doing what it was doing anyway.
As stated by others, if we end up having to use our backup we are screwed anyway. So we might as well have someone on the sideline in hearing the plays being called and can help Sanchez when needed.
Maybe I'm delusional, but I would rather risk signing a 40 year old brittle back up QB that will help us DEVELOP our rookie franchise Quarterback. Than Having Kellen Clemens as our back up whom cant even handle the task of holding a football in place so our kicker can kick a field goal.
You guys might wanna check the facts before you start talking shit. Mark Brunell couldn't lead the Super Bowl champs to a win against one of the worst teams in the league last year. The hatin' on KC bandwagon has always been popular around here, but despite how uninspiring a game he played in Tampa last year, he proved to be an able game manager with no turnovers and a big W.
If Brunell or KC has to play we lose end of story. This is about developing Sanchez into a great Quarterback. We have no fucking chance if Sanchez goes down.
He should be there for mentoring only IMO. If Sanchez goes down its a toss-up between Ainge and Brunell.
This argument is pointless, if sanchez goes down were fucked so lets have someone who can mentor him in Brunell. Brunell can manage a game and not turn it over as well as KC can
* First off dont talk Schottheimer, the man is a moron,he should have been sent packing with Mangini. If Rex didnt step in last year and tell him how to run the offense we wouldnt have made the playoffs. The jets had the best line and running game in football and that idiot is calling trick plays that dont work and bombs to Braylon Edwards. When the jets played power run , clock control offense they won, case closed. Most imporatnt part of offense is line, sign Mangold and Ferguson, give Revis 12 million a year or tell him to walk. Sanchez is doing just fine we made the AFC championship and almost won, forget that old fart Brunell.
it's the job of the coaching staff to ' mentor' sanchez. if you want to bring in babe parelli brunell, just name him the qb coach. whether we use kc or ainge, or bring back bolly, all would be better than brunell.
No we already have a QB Coach. What are we gonna do and fire the guy? This guy is a Coach, and a back up. That is better.
Dude, you're talking about one game. Brunell has proven he is of starting quality over numerous seasons. Back in his Jacksonville days, I would have taken him in a second. Even at his age, he is still better than Clemens. Clemens is pure garbage, with little experience when compared to Brunell. He may have gotten the W vs. Tampa, but who cares? Tampa is god-awful. Even against the Bills he proved how much he sucked. I would rather have Brunell on the sideline offering Sanchez some advice, than Clemens who has no advice whatsoever to offer.
exactly. Kellens is a piece of shit of a QB. Guy is a good dude though, but when he gets on the field it is an utter joke. I'd rather Brad Smith run the wildcat for an entire game than have KC play.
I wouldn't pick Kellen Clemens over Adam Sandler. Christ, has anyone actually watched KC play? Brunell is washed up and still light years ahead of KC in terms of ability and experience. We won despite KC, not because of. If I had to take my chance with a backup, I take the guy that can play. KC? Not a chance.
Not sure why its so hard to comprehend that Brunell last played a meaningful snap about 4 years ago. He was average at best back then and he hasn't gotten any better since. Four years for a 40 year old QB is an eternity. He couldn't beat out the Panthers with a Super Bowl winning squad. Wasn't even close either. As for KC, yeah he hasn't been the starting material, but he got us the win last time he stepped on the field. U want Sanchez to learn the offense from someone who knows shit about our offense and is about Favres age? Interesting. I'd rather have Vinny do that if we are only talking about the overrated 'mentoring' part. Seriously, we gonna have a 'mentor' for Shonn Greene as well?
