Why all of this talk of signing Mark Brunell. I accept the fact that the Jets need a veteran back up, but he cannot be the best out there. If Jeff Garcia is out there, I would take him. While both of them are defnintely finished it is a difference brtween a well done burger (Garcia) and one that is burnt (Brunell)

Garcia has got to know that he is not going to start on any NFL team at this point.

I think that other factors come into play with the need for a veteran at the QB position. I don't think Garcia is a guy who likes to mentor young QB's.
This is when I miss Pennington the most. Henne is getting a hugh boost with CP holding the clipboard.

Doesn't mean he has to come back and play in the NFL and learn a new system in his late 30's. He seems like a smart dude so he probably isn't going to lose his millions that he made in San Francisco and Cleveland any time soon.

Brunell will be a Jet in late July, time to just accept it. Cya later Kellen Clemens.

Garcia would have been great instead of fuckin' Burt, but that is the past. He does still have less wear on his tires overall, but emojoe hit the nail on the head...Brunell will be a much better mentor than Garcia, all things considered, he's the right choice.

I agree. in fact, I don't want a backup QB at all. who cares, if Sanchez goes down just insert the punter like Parcells did with Tom Tupa after Vinny had his leg amputated. problem solved.

Garcia wants to start, and he probably could compete for a job on teams like Cleveland, Buffalo or Arizona. Brunell has accepted the fact that he will be a backup for the rest of his career and I feel he would be a much better mentor for Sanchez.

    With apologies to Chris Farley:

Rex: Alright, get in here, sit down. Once again, I've got half the world calling me saying that you're threatening holdouts, banging actresses, hanging with rappers and partying half the night.

Sanchez: Ah, don't worry, Coach. The other half'll be calling soon!

Rex: Look, I don't know what gets into you.. you kids.. but, for once, I'm not even gonna try to find out! This year I've planned ahead. I've asked someone to come by the camp and straighten you out!

Revis: Gee, Coach, you really didn't have to go to all that trouble.

    Mangold: Who is it?

Rex: His name is Mark Brunell, and he's a journeyman quarterback. Now, he's been downstairs in the conference room eating No-Doze for about four hours! Hey, Mark? Come on up, we're ready for you!

Mark Brunell: Thanks, Rex! I'll take it from here! Well, well, well. Now, as your coach told you, my name is Mark Brunell, and I am a veteran NFL quarterback! Before I begin, I want to tell you a little about myself, so you'll know where I'm coming from. First off, I am 39 years old.. I am thrice divorced.. and I live in a van down by the river! We'll start with you young man! Now, let me begin with an obvious question: Who wants to hold out of camp for more money?

Revis: I don't know. But I can tell you what you had for lunch today - a chili dog. [the players laugh] No, really, I don't know.

Mark Brunell: [ mimicking ] I.. don't.. know! Well, that and a nickel will get you a hot cup of jack squat! Young man, you want to throw in your two cents?

    Mangold: No.

Mark Brunell: Anybody? Oh, the silent treatment, huh? Well, well, well.. a few minutes ago you were all as lively as a bunch of fish laughing and giggling, throwing your dicks around like a short-order cook at a truck stop!"Hey, man, look at me go, screwing the Hollywood whores! I'm the Dick-Man, coo-coo-ca-choo! [ laughs ] That's a riot, you kids are having a ball! Well, get over it! [ approaches Mark Sanchez] Now, what, may I ask, did you hope to accomplish by these shenanigans?

Sanchez: My personal goal, Mark, was to catch up to Antonio![ grins ]

Cromartie: Hey, man, that shit ain't funny

Mark Brunell: [ laughs ] Well, well, the jokes keep on coming! [ approaches Revis ] Help me out, young fella, I can't see real good, is that Bob Hope over there? Huh? You keep it up, pal, there's a big future in it! Kids, this reminds me of a spooky Halloween story. Rex, that's your cue. [ Rex turns off the lights, and Mark shines a flashlight below his face ] Once, there was a boy who liked to throw things. He started out throwing eggs. Then, he threw the big game. Then, he threw back a shot of whiskey. Then he threw up. Then he got thrown out of the house, and then he moved into a van down by the river! Rex, lights! [ Rex turns the lights back on ]

Sanchez: Mark, we were just having fun..

Mark Brunell: So, you had fun? How do you think all those girls you keep picking up and dropping ten days later felt? Hey, let's find out! I'll be you, and you be the girl! [ picks Sanchez up and spins him around the room ] "Hey, look at me! I'm gonna throw my dick around!" [ trips and falls backwards onto the podium ]

Rex: [ interceding ] Alright, Mark, I think you made your point..

Mark Brunell: Rex, I wish you'd sincerely do everyone a great service, and shut the fuck up! Now, as I see it, there is only one solution, and that is for me to transform this group of hooligans into a first-class clean-up crew! Don't worry, kids, we'll still have Halloween fun! Who needs candy apples when you've got soapy water and a little elbow grease? Everyone, grab a helmet! [ knock at the door] I'll get it, don't worry about a thing - trick or treat! [ opens door and discovers a flaming bag in the hall ] Oh, my God! [ stomps the flame, smearing feces on the linoleum] Oh, my God! Hot foot! Hot foot! [ stomps through the meeting room and trips on the window blinds ] Don't worry about a thing, ol' Mark has it under control! [ wipes his shoe with Jason Taylor's old Dolphags jersey ] Looks like Revis had a little hand in this! [ trips again and crashes through the window ] What are you looking at? I've done my job! If you need me, I'll be extracting glass out of my ass in a van down by the river!

I saw that thread. I guess imo, the mentoring should be done by the QB coach. We need someone that can play if Sanchez goes down. Brunell just does not do it for me, but you guys are probably right and I will have to resign myself to the fact Brunell, the old guy that is not Brett Farve, will be our back-up.

God forbid our backup does go in, I wouldn't mind seeing Erik Ainge anyway.

Brunell can mentor and Ainge can play.

Yeah no doubt he isnt a 40 year old Favre QB, but he is our best option. Unless we want to go out and pay for Marc Bulger(whom will require more cash than Brunell.)

But Brunell has had a hell of a better career than Bulger.

Brunell wants to coach also, and I think Mark will respond better to his backup vet QB than the QB Coach. (both help obviously though)

Brunell would be the better teacher for 'Chize. Even if Garcia is the slightly better player right now it wouldn't matter, because an injury to Sanchez means we're screwed anyway.

Mark Brunell is way past his playing time in the NFL. He is done. If we want veteran presence, he is not it. He will be 40. I don't think he has anything left to contribute on the field. If u want Sanchez to learn from him, hire him as a coach, not as a player. He hasn't really seen the field since 2006 besides the one game last season where the Saints rested Brees. And he looked like a 39-yrs old QB against the Panthers super elite D anyways.

The question isn't who the best QB in terms of production is (obviously Garcia).

The question who can be the best mentor... and to me that's Brunell.

Of course I'd prefer Garcia on the field but I think Brunell can help Sanchez's development more...
