100 Mil is a lot but on 2nd thought, having it over a 6 year 12m/Season isn't too bad I just hope they are making the right decision with the other players ... Also from that article, and your fucking kidding me right? Franchise Mangold? He's pissed off enough, giving him a Franchise Tag may push him over the edge, potentially asking for a trade if we franchise him ...
Yeah Brick over Mangold, that's a little disconcerting. I truly believe that a very good left tackle is more valuable than a great center, but a great center is still pretty damn valuable. Maybe the mentality behind extending Brick this season is that the Jets think this is the last year they can sign Brick without shelling out top dollar. I think Brick deserves top five money right now. If he gives us the same contribution in 2010 he did in 2009, he will definitely deserve top five money. If he improves in 2010 (which seems likely), he may be in a position to break lineman contract records.
If this is indeed true, I'm not so against the Revis part because on a per year basis, 12 million isn't terrible considering what he was asking before. 6 (or 8?) years is a long contract. The total amount would be expected to be high. i'd rather have him for 12 million per year for a longer period than 15-16 millipon for a shorter period. I do hope they do something better with Mangold though. I wonder why they are going after Brick first unless he's being very reasonable about his wishes. Who knows. It's all rumors anyway.
i would love for them to get this deal done, then we work on mangold...brick and harris will get signed after the season
If he signs a deal til he is 33 we could trade him when he is in his last year of the deal lol..(hopefully he still plays well then) I could live with Brick, and Harris waiting. I believe Harris doesn't have an issue with it, but not sure about Brick.
You know when the first whispers of the Revis deal came up. I thought it was typical Jets...being on the cheap with their own players. Then Darelle opens his mouth. I think at this juncture the Jets should give him a decent deal, but not top pay, at this time. I have become less of a Revis fan with this whole debacle. As soon as a player who has already made multi million dollars says the word "family" he loses me with my empty bank account.
It was stated that the the 100 Million offered to Revis includes what he is already owed and will keep him a Jet until he is 23, and that he will average 12 mil a year. That is actually a fair deal. I'd pay 12 mil a year for Revis. I think that by signing D'Brick now we will save money in the long run, thus having money for Mangold. I know all this contract talk has us worried, but I think Tanny knows what he is doing.
Darrelle has been shady during this little 2 week chaos-fest. Thing is though if his actions make the Jets work on the contract faster thats all I care about. I just want the kid to sign on the line, and be happy/focused to play.
I'm thinking he will. 12$ - 14$ million is more than enough. He still will be the best regardless at His position
Revis has to stfu about the Jets not being loyal. He has 3 years on his contract and they want to pay him. He's delusional if he thinks that if the team doesn't give him 16 million a year that they're disloyal. If anyone is being disloyal it's him.
I love Revis and love to brag that he is a Jet. We obviously have to pay him a lot but when you plans are to hamper your future team and ask for a rediculous amount then you are getting scummy. He says to look at Washington and what happened to him-umm yeah he got hurt so should we extend everyones contract in case they get injured and suffer paying them. Thats why you sign contracts in the first place. There is a risk involved and when one players does very good they want their contract redone. How about when a player sucks can we redo his- not going to mention any names (6th pick)
What Revis also doesn't say is that Leon was offered a decent contract the year before which he declined. Then he got hurt and his value dropped. Teams have to hedge against career altering injuries as well.
The hedge is that no contract is guaranteed in the NFL. The only guarantees are in the bonus money so after that if they get hurt they get cut. And that is what Revis has been really mad about, not the total, not the money per year but "he says" there is absolutely no guaranteed money at all. Of course that isn't true because the last two years of his current contract will be guaranteed as soon as the Jets exercise them.
Well, here's a random bullshit statement from this article. What a tard. "Finally, here's something to tuck away for future reference. If the Jets struggle this year, look for Ryan to commence the process of trying to get G.M. Mike Tannenbaum run out of town, by blaming Tannenbaum's handling of the "Core Four" for screwing up the chemistry in the locker room."
I think Mangold wants his deal, he hasn't ruled out the possibility of holding out during camp. I love the new confident attitude but it seems to be rubbing off on the players in the wrong way, but also the right way. I mean we all love Rex and his comments, imagine how much the players love him and take his comments to heart.
They are a valuable commodity in a capitalist society. Do you walk into a museum and see the price tag on a painting from a popular artist and say it's overpriced? After all, it's just canvas and paint. But there is enough demand for it that the artist, if successful, can retire on and set their families up for a while. Not a great comparison, but if fits a lot better than comparing them to everyday citizens, a distinction removed the moment they signed with an NFL franchise. The economy and society have no effect on the rate of money they get, the CBA does. So until such time as the NFL stops raising the Cap every season in a future CBA, the players cannot be technically overpaid.
None of the above. If Revis isn't going to be reasonable, then just keep him. Don't trade him. He has three years left on his deal. He wants more than Asomougha, which is ridiculous. Al Davis is a lunatic, so the contracts he gives out cannot be used as benchmarks. $12 million a year is perfectly reasonable. If he insists on 16, too bad. Remember, he was the one holding out, demanding the Jets add a 6th year to his rookie deal. Now he changes his mind and wants the years disregarded. Too bad. If he won't agree to a reasonable extension, then keep him for the remaining three years left on his deal.
