Trade Revis or pay him a lot?

What do you do with Revis?

  1. Sign Revis for Asomugha money - the market is set.

    20.3%
  2. Pay Revis 14-15 mil for solid guaranteed money.

    65.6%
  3. Trade Revis to the highest bidder.

    14.1%

If Revis gets a $15mil a year deal and makes lets say $4 mil in base salaries in one of the years, its gonna be a huge deal when that year comes around. Just like this yr when he's scheduled to make $1mil, but his rookie deal was so huge, other GMs were mad at Tanny for giving up a $6mil a yr deal to 14th overall. Now, its like he is playing for peanuts when in reality, you have to look at the entire deal. Front loading will mean less salary moving forward. These fucking players tend to forget about the bonuses they received when they signed the deal and will bitch about low base salary in a contract that pays thme $10+ mil a year on avg.

Jerry would definitely bite it. Revis is an immediate upgrade. Deon Sanders won him a few championships along with other few players and Cowboys secondary is a mess, although its mainly safety position. Newman will be 32 years old on opening day. He doesn't have much left in the tank and Cowboys will probably go corner early in the draft next year. So yes, there is definitely room for improvement. Jerry will throw away picks and money for a shut down corner if available. I doubt we reach that point though.

Yes, Redskins are another candidate, but one can only hope what their cap is like since they just threw shit loads of cash in the last two FAs. With Snyder, you never know though.

Yup. Totally agree here. Get a pass rusher, DT or Safety of the future, resign Cro and hope that he and Wilson can deliver the goods.

At the end of the day, this is a team sport. If Revis' contract becomes too prohibitive to fill other positions, then he can't stay.

Plus, as I've said before, I seriously doubt there are that many other GMs besides Crazy Al who are willing to pay a CB that kind of cash.

This is a difficult situation. I want to keep Revis at any cost, but I dont feel that any player in the NFL is worth that much money. I think that athletes are extremely overpayed today and its getting more and more ridiculous everyday.

I love Revis, I want him here, I really cant imagine him on any other team. I hope the Jets will pay him what he wants so he will stay.

on what basis do you believe they are overpaid? because they make more than other professions? that is the only thing that could mean. it is clear you have never actually thought about the dynamics of sports salaries if you have come to that conclusion because overpaid isn't a comparative dynamic against completely different professions.

every profession makes what the market will provide, athletes are no different. by the inherent dynamics of any industry, athletes can't be overpaid. now, within a specific industry athletes can be overpaid because their salaries are comparative to one another, and that can be further compared based on performance, so a QB who makes more than another QB who is better is overpaid. but a QB isn't overpaid compared to a teacher because the teacher is a better teacher than he is QB. with that in mind, the very basis of your belief is flawed.

the simple fact is that theres no rule that says you cant sit out or complain about your contract. this is the way the league is these days. revis makes this defense what it is; he takes away half of the field. He is one of, if not the, most important parts to our super bowl run; pay the man.

There are repercussions for sitting out. For one, if he sits out of any mandatory practice he will lose the option of having the last two years of his contract guaranteed money if the Jets buy them back. Secondly, if he doesn't report by a certain date (August 10th I believe) he will not get credit for playing the 2010 season and will be another year from being a FA.

That's the first I had heard of that, was it something reported recently or has it been known for a while?

I remembered reading it, but didn't remember it was by Florio so take it for what it's worth. I wasn't able to find anyone else making or backing the claim.

    Screw Revis!

If we are going to spend $15 mil per year on a player I want LeBron James in a Jets uniform.

You can triple team him but he is still going to catch the ball before anyone else can jump high enough for it. Just imagine all of the blocked kicks on special teams.

That's been talked about ever since FA started and he was right on both counts.

"Should Jets CB Darrelle Revis(notes), Titans RB Chris Johnson, Chargers LT Marcus McNeill(notes), Jets C Nick Mangold(notes) or any player extend holdouts beyond Aug. 10, it would mean they would not receive a year of service for the ’10 season and thus would be a year further removed from free agency. …"

Another tidbit from having an uncapped year and why the Jets nor any other team is really worried about holdouts...especially from Revis who as stated would also lose his guarantee and STILL be owned by the Jets for another three years.

I was really paranoid this would be the Keyshawn situation all over again until Revis overplayed his hand a couple days ago by feigning injury. Now I'm hopeful there'll eventually be a more reasonable solution though you never know with this agent, considering he's been a problem for the Jets before.

I cant believe we are even having discussions about trading Revis.. He is the cornerstone of this team.. The whole chemistry of the defense will be fucked up if he isnt there.. We need to give this man the money Im sorry.

    I think you're completely wrong.

The economy is in distress. While players are demanding more money, the economic forces at work don't necessarily support them.

The Jets have had to cut up to 50% off their PSL prices in an effort to move them. The league is facing a work stoppage in 15 months.

Athletes are overpaid, and so are teams. We have record unemployment, which is only going to rise with factors such as the Gulf Coast tragedy, continued agression by various nations around the globe, and countries such as Greece collapsing financially.

At some point, the money is going to run out for "entertainment." These players have no clue what sort of rude awakening they're in for. Perhaps one could argue that these athletes weren't "overpaid" before, but that argument is no longer valid, and that will play out sooner, rather than later.

The NFL is not hurting and b/c the Jets plan to fleece us didn't go according to plan doesn't have anything to do w/ the economy. If the economy was great they would have had a touhg time selling PSLs.

You are paid what you are worth basically. if someone is willing to pay him $15 mil a year and $30 mil guaranteed that is what he is worth. Obviously if the team wasn't making a boatload they wouldn't pay him that amount.

If people like us didn't care and didn't spend our money on sports and entertainment these teams, players, actors, etc... wouldn't make what they make.
