I'm still not in panick mode just yet. I hope to Revis that he comes to his senses. This is where a solid Vet from a winning team could work wonders. If he truly wants to go down in history as one of the best he can't sacrifice playing on a great team for a ridiculous contract.
I'm sick of these athletes who want to renegotiate well before the completion of their contract. He's got 3 more fucking years on his current deal! If the Jets were to pay him, what does that say to everyone on the team? Pissed off with your deal...throw a tantrum and get your way! I get that Revis is a superstar, maybe the Jets best player...but as an organization, you have to put your foot down sometimes. I love Revis, and hope he stays a Jet...but wanting that type of money seems like it could cripple the cap down the road, and hinder us from keeping key players in other areas...where's the team spirit? How about WINNING in NY with a great TEAM? You'll get more than money if you can do that. Ask Broadway Joe.
You can't only look at this kids play on the field. He brings a lot more to the table such as a role model for the younger guys coming in and will be one of the faces of your franchise his whole career. Pay him the money make him a Jets for life. P.S. SIGN MANGOLD TOO!!!
I understand where Revis is coming from but i just think he's acting unreasonable in a way. Al Davis is a senial old fool who goes out and dishes money to a cb who doesnt evebn deserve 16 mil. He is not peyton manning. If Revis doesnt cut as a break for a deal of 12-14 (which i think is more than enough for a cb) then maybe we should look into trading him. Im not willing to give up mangold, d brick, harris for revis. Revis is a playmaker and is so good on the field but he needs to understand that we have other players that complete the puzzle too. Without mangold, dbrick and harris the team wont be able to contend for a title. At this point Revis is all about the money.
I am sitting downfront next year and I am praying the SOB gets his leg broke three ways to sunday before the greedy bastard gets a contract extension. Jets open up PSL sales in newly reduced sections today to general public and are desperate to sell last seats and this knucklehead is trying to fuck it up.
he essentially is in the last year of his deal the way it is structured. I hate the way he is going about it especially faking injury/illness while at practice(either stay home or bring 100% effort) but when the teams have the hammer they aren't afraid to use it and in this situation he has the hammer and he is wisely using it. It's frustrating as fans to watch this but their careers are so short and they need to take advantage of every dime they can make.
Why not force him to honor the remainder of his contract??? and hes a free agent after in 2 years!!...thats what VALUE means.....there is no such thing as value in the nfl because everytime players have a good season they want big $$.... F that !! U signed your contract....honor it bitch
I still don't see why everybody is so worried. If he holds out even one day past August 10th his last two years are not guaranteed. If any of them hold out past that date they lose an entire year of service. Nobody is holding out...nobody. Stop worrying about it.
I think that is the crux of it. Rex Ryan is a smart man defensively. He saw immediately when they started shifting QB and WR contact rules toward a pass-happy game that there would be a premium on the best cover corners. It's not a coincidence that we have a new 2CB and Nickel corner for both of Rex's first 2 seasons as HC. He wants an elite unit back there so he can punish the quarterback, until such time as they pay some serious attention to finding a long-term upgrade on the pass rush. And in this day and age, you spend on elite talent. For talent like Revis at a position of burgeoning impact for the current NFL rules, you make contract history.
12-14 a year, but jack the guaranteed money to something ridiculous. You care more about your family, or how much you make a year? Well here is a contract for 12 million a year(5years), but 40% of the entire thing is guaranteed. If Revis denies something like that than he is an asshole.
Revis set up this whole thing from day one his contract was designed for this pay me or trade me deal we are looking down the barrel of. I knew this with his initial hold out and many of you intelligent minds here fail to realze you cant fall in love with these guys because they are all for sale. "Think of it this way if you could sell your home for enough money that you could buy another home and furnishings with new cars and enough money to live like a king for few years would you do it?" His mind was made up years ago to become the highest paid at his position its not disrespect to the fans or the organization its a goal of his that you have to respect he damn sure played like the best cb in the NFL didn't he? You can't blame the man for setting a goal like the next contract I sign will make me the highest paid at my position.Trust me he's not worried about what team that money will come from either. We pretty much had nothing when he came here remember? Its all about the cash.
and to the people saying "honor the contract durr durr durr", did the Jets honor Faneca and TJ's contracts? its a 2 way street. hes greedy because his contract pay him one fucking million dollars next year? he deserves more.
Based on all the other dumb shit he seems to post i would think he is totally serious. I hope he slips and falls down the stairs all the way to his beloved first row.
all this toolbag thinks about is psl's. and not to complain or bash them but its like hes trying to sell them for the jets. anyways, revis needs to be paid 12-14. thats what makes sense. load up the last year to make it average out to aso money, with a club option to kill the deal in that year so we can back out of it if something goes wrong. i believe waterboy stated this in another thread and it made a ton of sense to me.
Screw Him He can only defend one player. Fuck we have to pay Harris, Mangold, Brick who are all more important. You just can't keep changing contracts on the whim of a player. I say trade him for 2 or 3 number 1 round picks. If he was 20 sack pass rusher that alters a game I would reconsider but as I said he can only guard one player at a time. Move on.
I think Revis should stop playing this out in the media. Him being insulted is a f**ing joke. I cannot see this going well in the media for him. Right now they are saying to pay him but too many more "that offer was an insult" and "I need to feed my family BS" comments and it's going to turn. People do not like to hear that 15 (or so) million a year is an insult when they are struggling to get by in this economy.
