One of the great things from this article is a statement by Revis that he'll settle for less than Asamougha:

"I can't control what the Raiders paid Nnamdi Asomugha. But he set the bar.... I don't have to be paid that much, but me and my team are going to fight for that."

Darrelle Revis makes statement and stages protest by sitting out part of practice »

    By Manish Mehta

Darrelle Revis flashed a smile when I asked him why he sat out part of the morning minicamp practice.

"Just a little light-headed," he said.

Then, Revis told me he "was fighting for his family."

The All-Pro cornerback voiced his displeasure again at the stalled contract negotiations with the Jets. He went so far as to call the team's most recent offer an "insult" because it didn't have any fully guaranteed money.

"To me, it's like an insult... you sending me stuff with not guaranteed money in the contract," Revis said. "That's not good."

So was sitting out a protest?

"Call it what you want," he told me.

His take on the contract talks: "As of right now, it doesn't look good."

Revis admitted that he was making a statement by sitting out for part of the morning practice.

"Yeah," Revis said. "I talked to (secondary coach) Dennis Thurman about it too. We joked about it. He knows where I stand and what I believe in.... I can't control what the Raiders paid Nnamdi Asomugha. But he set the bar.... I don't have to be paid that much, but me and my team are going to fight for that."

Rex Ryan said he believed Revis when he got word that the Pro Bowler may have been feeling a little light headed.

"When they tell you something is not right, you believe them to be a man of their word," Ryan said. "I believe Darrelle would be that way. Now if he's pulling a fast one on us, he's pulling a fast one on us."

"Well, he made a statement," Ryan said. "That would disappoint me, for sure. Because he's out here and competes every day.... I'll talk to Darrelle. I believe in Darrelle, so when he tells me he's light headed or got a hamstring, I'll believe it."

Ryan also denied the notion that Revis' contract situation will be a distraction moving forward.

"If his situation is that he's got something on his mind and he's not focused 100 percent, then I really don't want him out there," Ryan said. "We practice hard. We go full speed. If that focus isn't there, then I don't want to put anybody in jeopardy."

"My goal is to win a Super Bowl and nothing's going to get in the way," Ryan added. "We'll go to war with whoever the hell is on this team. It doesn't matter. We're going to be the New York Jets. We're about the decal. It's not about one individual. But do I think Darrelle Revis will be here? Yeah, I absolutely do."

    NEWS & NOTES (Updated: 1 p.m.)

A few stats from 11-on-11 drills that I compiled during the morning practice:
    OFFENSE
    Mark Sanchez: 5-for-9, INT
Jerricho Cotchery: 1 reception, 3 targets
Dustin Keller: 1 reception, 2 targets, 1 drop
Braylon Edwards: 1 reception, 1 target
Santonio Holmes: 1 target, 1 drop
LaDainian Tomlinson: 2 receptions, 3 targets

    DEFENSE
Darrelle Revis: Thrown at once, 1 catch against
Antonio Cromartie: Thrown at twice, no catches against
    Kyle Wilson: Not thrown at
    Dwight Lowery: 1 INT

    Notes:
Kris Jenkins participated in team drills as he works his way back from knee surgery:

Sanchez on the progress with his knee: "I feel like I'm already thee. I'm ready to go."

LG Matt Slauson played with the first-team ahead of rookie Vlad Ducasse as the offensive line coach Bill Callahan continues to evaluate both players. In other words, Slauson hasn’t jumped ahead of Ducasse. It’s just a part of the evaluation process.

Nick Folk was 5-for-5 in field goals (from 30-33 yards)… Joe McKnight looked great catching the ball out of the slot… Kyle Wilson is as sure-handed as they come in the return game.

The Woodson deal is going to be the bar for Revis' contract, because everyone does agree that Aso's deal is absurd.

Once Woodson gets his deal done, hopefully soon, then things can get easier with Revis.

So there it is, it's nothing more than a negotiation tactic and Revis just admitted it. Nothing to see here, back to work everyone!

    NO.

You and your team are not going to fight for that because there is a salary cap in the NFL and if you get what you think you deserve then the next guy gets CUT - Bye Bye TEAM.... You can' t be on a great team AND have a bunch of players all looking for top money... At some point people need to sign discounted contracts to keep the TEAM together.... So, you make 15 million instead of 18 and you WIN in NEW YORK and make it up in endorsements. WIN / WIN

IMO... the players should get together figure out how much each one of em deserves and then come back to the team as a group and decide who should get top contracts and who should get cut...

Stop blaming management on one hand and claiming what THE TEAM deserves on another... Thing don't work like that.

during his press conference on the 10th, the dumb reporter who was asking these questions about the economy actually did get Revis to say that if the Jets did give him a number around Aso's, that him and his camp would look into it.

It's good to see that Revis understands that Al Davis really fucked up the Aso contract. Negotiations can get an ugly side to them, but they will come to an agreement.

agreed...i think Woodson's deal sets the realistic bar for Revis' contract......that Aso contract garbage shouldn't even come into play.

Although...Revis should still get slightly more than Woodson.....he's younger and better.

    Oh.

    lol.

Then #### All of this.... There should only be one TEAM.

If I were Rex Ryan I'd go ballastic and seriously think about coaching college....

Not sure he's allowed to (doubt it) but, If I'm Rex I read the entire team the riot act and give them a lesson on the SALARY CAP and walk out myself.....

YOU WANNA BE PART OF A ####'N Team of Players or Agents????? Well, HERE is the ### #### money pie for the team, you ####"s figure it out come back to me tomorrow and either we play as a team or I'm going to Virgina.

I really hate this off-season. The Jets are making headlines for all the wrong reasons. I'm sorry but I don't know how a team with this many distractions, this many sideshows can be a favorite to go to the Super Bowl. I hope like hell I'm wrong and I hope this is just the darksider in me talking.......Just sayin' .........

No one has said anything is a distraction. Training Camp hasn't even begun yet. The team gets a month off once minicamp ends.

    Don't shit your pants yet.

Reading that just made me like Revis a little less. I will always love how awesome he plays for us, but in my opinion he is light years away from the character of guys like Curtis Martin or Chrebet. Lets get him signed so he stops complaining...

agents always start super high, teams start super low ...

except instead of a being a RFA or having the franchise tag looming, the jets hold revis' rights for three years

So... Revis is sitting out parts of practice and protesting his contract while at practice.

Sounds a lot like what Brandon Marshall did, minus punting a football...

And you really should just pay the man...

Why do we have to compare everything to the Dolphins?

Brandon Marshall did it in an immature and embarassing way.

Brandon Marshall is also an asshole and beats women.

Well google Brandon Marshall and see what negative things you see about him, honestly if he does one more fucked up thing or commits one more crime, you could very well see him being suspended for a very long time

Hope you guys got a clause in his contract about his off the field issues

Comparing Mashall to Revis is a complete joke regardless of the situation.
