Since I can't put a poll in someone else's thread, I figured I'd post my own poll and if a mod wants to merge it into an existing Revis thread, no problemo. Let's see where TGG stands.
i would pay Revis whatever he wants. i understand the cap implications and the fact CB isnt a priority position, but i refuse to imagine this defense with Revis.
I don't want to see Revis go, I just don't want to see him get paid 16-17 million a season, thanks to a fucking horrible contract. He deserves anywhere was 12-14 million, I agree with that, but nothing more. I also don't want to see him get traded.
I want to buy back Revis' 2 years and make him play well for 2 more years. Oh wait, I can't do that. He will not play as hard now and take plays off cause he is a baby.
If he won't back down from the Aso deal I say buy back the 2 years at $20 MM and look to trade him after this season for 2 1sts in next years draft (as suggested by Br4dw4ysucks). The Aso deal was a retarded one done by a senile old man. $12 - $14 MM/ year seems like the right range.
I want to see Revis play his entire career here.....and I also believe he deserves a big raise. The idea of trading him is poppycock....especially at this point in his career. But, Aso type money is fucking ridonkulous on any level....so Revis needs to taper down his expectations a smidge.....and I believe he will. the 12-14 million dollar range being tossed around here is reasonable, IMO as well.
Completley agree with this. Look im not going to bad mouth revis, but 15 million or plus a year for a cornerback is just plain retarded. I see mangold, harris, and brick as more important pieces to keep.
Pay hom plain and simple. revis can be generational player. One of if not the GOAT. You do no trade those types of players. You keep him and pay him. How many people play corner back-64 starters in the NFL? You have ASo and him those are players that change the game at thier position.
what kind of message will it send to current players or future players that the Jets won't pay even the best players in the league top money if they can't reach a deal and trade him? the goodwill of Rex Ryan certainly wouldn't be able to overcome that. the Jets have no choice, they have to pay him. long term it is there only option.
That's a good point, but you can circumvent some of that negativity by locking up the other 3 in the mean time. At least Mangold and Harris as Brick is already well compensated. If he won't back down from the retarded bar Al Davis set, I doubt he remains a Jet for long. The Jets have done a good job at protecting themselves here.
My guess is that they really want to get Revis signed to a reasonable deal but not Aso money and they're going to do everything they can to make that happen. Without knowing the results of the Revis deal on top of not knowing wtf the CBA/cap situation will be it's very difficult to approach all those guys.
"Pay Revis 14-15 mil for solid guaranteed money." ... ...is the obvious choice. The questions is, will Revis accept it? I'm thinking he won't.
