Don't bother.. this guy is an idiot and clearly has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to Darrelle Revis.. his posts continue to show that.
This is such a contradiction. The reason we did so well last year is because of the confidence Rex Ryan put in this team. For Rex, it's "stfu or be a football coach."
Agreed. Rex's ability to trust his players and his assistants is his best asset as a coach. I could not envision him failing to praise a player who has earned it.
It wasn't a reworked contract. Anderson was becoming a FA after that pro bowl season and Quinn wasn't ready to take over (still isn't). U can not compare Revis' situation with Anderson's situation. Revis has played three full seasons starting every game. He's been getting better and although he only had one all pro season, he proved it in every game why is one of the best, if not the best CB. Anderson on the other hand, had a few very good games, and a few terrible games. Revis? He had one terrible play the entire season and thats it really.
Why would Tanny NOT offer him a 12-13 mil contract? He has Revis for $21 mil for the next 3 years, what incentive does Tanny have to pay Revis anything more than $13 mils while tearing up the current contract? If Tanny offers Revis a new 6 years at 13 mil per year, that is essentially giving Revis 3 extra years for 57 mils. That a heck of a lot of money. If Tanny was to give 6 years $96 mil contract, that is giving Revis extra three years for extra 75 mils (averaging $25 mils). That is a ridiculous deal. Did u see the entire press conference? A reporter asked Revis if he'd accept a deal that would be around 13 mil a year and Revis said something like 'let them offer that and we'll see what to do with it'. Obviously, that doesn't mean he'll say no or yes, but if he is stubborn and wants his 16 mil a year deal, he would say no, my value is more than what Nnamdi is making. Tanny did not offer him anything close to $16 mils. Revis got pretty upset towards the end of the conference. I did not see him relaxed. How do u come to that conclusion? He just wasn't budging, but he obviously wasn't relaxed due to getting a contract in the $16 mil range. Tanny will NEVER offer such a deal and if he does, it'll include shit loads of incentives and a lot of roster bonuses to protect the Jets incase shit happens in the future. Do you think if Revis came to the table and said I am the best player so pay me like one that Tanny would debate about it? I doubt if Tanny says no, you are a top 5 CB and thats it. No. It just doesn't happen that way. Again, Dolphins owner claimed Henne was the best QB that franchise has ever had, including Marino. That doesn't mean Henne can grab a sword and ask for $20 mil a year contract or be released. Tanny has Revis for 3 years at $21 mils. That's a lot of room for negotiations. Tanny can hold Revis for 3 years at 21 mil. When Revis becomes a FA after that and signs lets a say a 3 years 45 mil deal, he'll end up with 66 mils over 6 years. Or Revis can simply agree to a 6 years $75 mil deal with shit loads of guarantees. It is Revis who doesn't have a lot to work with, not the other way around.
do you enjoy being a little girl all the time? I mean really, either grow a pair or find another team.
I find it kind of funny how after decades of draft debacles with this team, we finally draft really well. Problem is, we drafted too well and now can't pay the guys what they want... IN AN UNCAPPED YEAR. Dare I say, "Same old Jets."
Right because redoing his deal will only effect one uncapped year, no effect on the years after where we don't know if there will or won't be a cap.
There's gotta be a way to make both sides happy. I like Revis as a player and he does deserve more pay, but 16 mil/year ? Come on!
If we give him what he wants, we'll revert back to "SoJ". We'll have to sacrifice a player or two for him. If he lowers his demands to something that is actually reasonable for both sides, we probably won't lose a pro bowl caliber player we drafted, or two. So the Jets are trying to be reasonable while Revis is being a dick after the Jets gave him the biggest contract at #14th overall.
i don't get how revis was literally praised here just a few months ago, and now he's vilified. its crazy. "being the highest paid corner is important, its not the most important thing, but to me its important". that isn't him saying he has to be the highest paid player, that's one side of the negotiating table informing the other side on what will spark his interests a bit more. he's not about me me me... if he was, he wouldn't be at any OTAs and he wouldn't have said he'd be at minicamp. if he was all about me me me, he would be a distraction. dude is one of the quietest people on a team with mouths. the only reason why this has gotten to this level is bc he was thrown in front of the press. if that press conference didn't happen, this board would still be speculating on his worth, and what we can give him instead of what's transpired in this thread. as said by many before, not hte same ol' jets; same ol' jet fans. some of you are amazing in your fair weathered fan-ness.
He has no business taking a contract negotiation to the levels he has at this point when he has 3 years left on his deal and there are other people that need to be signed now or a lot sooner than he does. I get that he's worried that the Jets will have to lay out a lot of money for Mangold and then for Harris and then for one of the receivers and then for D'Brick, etc. I get that he's wondering if there will be room for a record contract in a couple of years when he's up. The answer to those concerns is to go out and make himself irreplaceable on a championship team. I also get that the Jets do not inspire confidence in their players at this point that they'll do the right thing money wise. That's unfortunate but it's also part of the business of football. Revis is not on the backside of his career like TJ and Faneca. He's not an average player like Baker and Kendall. He's not (currently) damaged goods like Leon was. Assuming he doesn't get hurt he'll make his huge contract when it is due. I understand the reasons that he's doing what he's doing right now, I just think they're self-defeating because he has no control over the situation and he's just making things worse, both for himself and the team. He's on the rollercoaster now and when that sucker is cranking slowly over the top you just have to brace yourself for the plunge because nothing is going to stop it. He needs to relax and start playing football and count on things going right for the next season or two. It's not like he has any other effective options at this point. BTW, in my opinion the Jets handling of the Leon, TJ and Faneca situations is directly related to Revis acting out right now. It's directly related to Mangold taking the hard stance that he has. While you can argue that all of those were good business decisions they were collectively a potential team destroyer. The scary thing about them is that they're an escalation of the pattern with Kendall and Baker, neither of whom were as important to the team as that trio. Sometimes you need to bite the bullet and keep a TJ instead of signing an LT just to maintain the locker room at a crucial junction in the team's progress. I'm not sure that idea is honored in the current administration. The Steelers kept Jerome Bettis on when their Super Bowl push in 2004 fell short, because they knew that even with his declining skills they needed him in the locker room in 2005 and sure enough with him having his worst season they won a Super Bowl. He was worth more to the team than his failing abilities. The Jets should have kept TJ.
Revis HAS a contract that he signed as a rookie--live up to it, man. He owes the jets 3 more years (and getting paid well for it). You don't see Gholston giving back one dime of his millions just because he's no good, do you? The most I'd offer Revis is a roster bonus in addition to his current contract. As I recall, people were critical of Mike T. for making the last 2 voidable years of Revis' original contract too rich for the jets to handle--now Revis says they' re not good enough.(?)
The problem with this line of thinking is that the Jets have said they want to redo his contract. So of course Revis is going to try and get the best contract he can. It's not like he just decided he needs a new deal and isn't playing without one, the Jets have agreed they want to lock him up and now he's going to fight for the most money he can get. There's nothing wrong with either side trying to get the best deal in this negotiation.
This was a huge error on their part if it happened and I'm not sure it did to tell you the truth. I see the Jets management saying they plan to keep their core four and not much about when they plan to sign them. In fact I see just the opposite with Tannenbaum and Woody both saying that with the CBA up in the air this is probably not the year to do extensions. The chronology to me looks like: 1. Darrelle Revis asked for an extension this year, with three years left to go on his deal. 2. The Jets, after some consideration gave him an offer that he declined, because with three years left on his deal the Jets were not going to give him the best offer he might receive when he's actually on the cusp of free agency. 3. Revis got upset, because the Jets had responded to his request in a way that he considered demeaning given his talents. 4. The Jets gave him another offer that also was not topflight. 5. Revis got very upset, probably because it suddenly occurred to him and his agent that the Jets weren't going to roll over and that he really had very little actual leverage this offseason. 6. Woody and Tannenbaum both re-emphasized heavily that they weren't likely to do extensions this offseason. 7. Revis is sort of out of options and so we don't know what comes next. The errors in this process on the Jets part are basically limited to steps 2 and 4. They should have just reiterated that they don't redo deals that are only half done unless the initial deals were bargain basement mid round deals.
I think that's the important thing here. Shouting "Liars!" at the FO is the Revis Camp's only real bullet right now. They've fired that bullet, to little effect.
Does anyone really believe that accusation at that point? Apparently the Jets only lie to the clients of one agent and are honest with every one else.
