The Austin Statesmen is reporting that it's official... Texas, Okie St, Texas Tech and Oklahoma are going to the Pac 10 according to a highly ranked unnamed Big 12 official. http://www.statesman.com/blogs/cont...11/official_ut_tec.html?cxntcid=breaking_news Chaos is upon us, this will also spell the end of the Big east as we know the Big 10 will now add 4 teams likley from the BE.
Oh man, Pac-10 is suddenly a premier conference again, probly one of the toughest in the nation now. Perenial BCS contenders in UCS, Texas, Oklahoma, as well as T A&M, OK St, Cal... Does this effect Basketball as well? I'm not sure how this all works...If so, holy shit. Pac-10 is insane.
Outstanding. A&M would be smart to go to the Pac Ten, I'm not sure how the SEC would feel about adding the Aggies. They could really be on two completely different extremes, either in love with the idea of adding the Texas market, or against it with the possibility of adding better programs from the ACC (Miami, FSU, VTech, Clemson, GTech).
Jesus christ, I'm more interested in the bball implications than the football. This is huge and is great for the sport, IMO. More big-time matchups with actual meaning, and you're keeping the local rivalries. Fan-freaking-tastic!! Texas, Stanford, UCLA, OK, OK St, Arizona, Cal...
this is great for the Pac 10. Now how will the BCS get shuffled with the elimination of a BCS conference? will they give an automatic bid to a smaller conference or simply leave it open to the other BCS schools?
What are you talking about? They're in the SEC. * On edit, I'm guessing you meant to say Kansas? If so, then yeah, they're in no man's land right now. I'm guessing a Big East invite might be headed their way once the BE thins out a little (RU/Pitt/WVU or whoever the B10 wants)
The issue is the BE is going to die in football so there is no benefit for any team to look at them as obviously there will be no BCS Money coming in. The BE is going to suffer big time even in basketball as once the hammer comes down on Tuesday with the Pac XV (waiting on 1) the Big 10 will go for 16 and that starts with Rutgers, Missouri, Pitt, UConn and forcing NDs hand in joining or being left out. If ND aligns itself alone the Big 10 looks at Syracuse. The SEC will then counter by adding GTech, FSU, Clemson and possibly Louisville which would give them two teams in Florida, Georgia, S Carolina, Tennesee, Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky. The ACC will respond by taking Cuse, Memphis, Cinci, WVU and whoever they can get their hands on.
Kansas to SEC would be great. Imagine the fucking battles we'd see?! Kansas is probly stuck in no mans land though, which sucks for them. They're a fun team.
Thanks man, I don't go to UCF but I'll be applying for it soon enough. I hope they accept me, the college is high on my list
Connecticut's not a top flight football school. Of course, the Big 10/11/12/13/14/15/16 has Northwestern already in it. They've been in the conference for ages so that's something different. I cannot see that conference bringing in a school that doesn't have a strong football tradition. Rutgers doesn't have a strong history either, but it is the birthplace of college football and I think the conference wants one program that is somewhat close to NYC. Connecticut seems to be a better fit for the expanded ACC. They could go back to having a rivalry with Boston College.
So to sum it all up (if SEC and ACC go 16): Pac-10 Arizona Arizona State Cal Oregon Oregon State Stanford UCLA USC Washington Washington State ----------------- Colorado Oklahoma Oklahoma State Texas Texas Tech ??? Big Ten Illinois Michigan Minnesota Northwestern Purdue Wisconsin Indiana Iowa Ohio State Michigan State Penn State ---------------- Nebraska ??? (Pittsburgh) ??? (Rutgers) ??? (Missouri) ??? SEC Alabama Auburn Florida Georgia Kentucky LSU Ole Miss Mississippi State Tennessee Vanderbilt Arkansas South Carolina --------------- ??? ??? ??? ??? ACC Clemson Duke Maryland North Carolina North Carolina State Virginia Wake Forest Georgia Tech Florida State Miami Virginia Tech Boston College -------------- ??? ??? ??? ??? Teams in search of a home (13 places): Big 12 Texas A&M (80% Pac-10, 20% SEC) Baylor Missouri (60% Big Ten) Kansas Kansas State Iowa State Big East Cincinnati Connecticut Louisville Pittsburgh (90% Big Ten) Rutgers (90% Big Ten) South Florida Syracuse West Virginia Ind Notre Dame (imho Big Ten) Who goes where? This will be exciting!
Big ten only has 4 more spots available with Nebraska in it... If Texas A&M go to the SEC could Baylor follow them? This was the 2 teams per state criteria would be satisfied. I'd actually like to see the Utah Utes in the PAC-10...
Rumor has it A&M told the Pac 10 to get bent and will go to the SEC, also Larry Scott is on his way to Kansas City to meet with Kansas.
Things I've read through some browsing: SEC commish Mike Slive was in College Station on Saturday and it is believed A&M has an SEC offer. The SEC reportedly has offered Texas, A&M and Oklahoma. Texas has said no. A&M is very close to officially accepting, per Rivals (AggieYell.com & Orangebloods) as well as the Houston Chronicle. The SEC has also put a full-court press on Oklahoma, and some say OU would prefer this scenario, but they are committed to staying with Texas. So likely no SEC for OU. If A&M joins the SEC, they could stand pat at 13 schools, according to ESPN. ESPN also says, via a source within the SEC, that they have no plans to target ACC schools like FSU, Miami, GT and Clemson. They would only be interested in new markets. Assuming A&M join the SEC... that gives them markets in Texas, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana.... Whats a "new" market for them? Sounds like Virginia, but I'd guess WVU over VaTech.
Anyone like conspiracy? Give this a read. http://www.texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=1639364&forum_id=5 I've seen theories like this floating around and I really do believe there is some truth to what's said here so take a look for yourself. IMO, Chip Brown of Orangebloods is being used as a straight propaganda machine for UT. I understand he may have some fantastic sources, but the level of information he's getting is a bit much, no? That or Texas has more than just a leak in the Athletics office. Not to mention, Chips main way of spreading the word has been Twitter. I think they knew they could rely on Orangebloods to deliver the info exactly how they wanted in order to win the public relations battle.
