http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5276064 Absolute fantastic move by the conference, rather then wait to see what happens we are being proactive. My guess as long as the Big 3 of Utah, TCU and BYU stay together the MWC will replace the Big East as an AQ to the BCS or they will take away one of the at large spots.
I doubt the Mountain West will replace the Big East. MWC should take away one of the at large spots now. Utah, Boise, and TCU have all busted into the BCS over the last few years. I think the WAC will bring in an FCS school like Montana. I've been hearing from a couple of good sources that Fresno will more than likely join the Big 12, which will be fucking awesome.
Keep an eye on what Kansas does now that the Big 12 is going to be decimated. They could stay in the depleted conference, make the move to the MWC to make it 12 teams (w/ KState) or, perhaps, jump to the Big East. Could you imagine if the BE added the Jayhawks to their basketball slate? Replacing Rutgers with Kansas would be like trading in your 95 Taurus with the racing stripe for a Ferrari.
Word on the street is that Kansas could replace A&M in the Pac 10 should A&M not go with Texas and the rest of the B12 South. That isn't devastating to the MWC but adding Kansas would be a coup. Even adding Kstate and Houston would be a good deal for the MWC. I'm thinking a north and south North Boise BYU Utah Wyoming CSU Air Force South UNLV SDSU New Mex Houston KState TCU
I might be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that Kansas and KState had to stay together, whether they stayed in the Little 12 or went somewhere else. Could be wrong though, because there's so many rumors flying around it's hard to keep straight what's true.
I have heard that they don't need to but Lon Kruger said on the radio yesterday (K State Alum) that what they say in public might not be the truth.
If that's the case, then the question would become how Kansas would look at it from a basketball perspective. That's their moneymaker, and it may not be in their best interest to go to the MWC, even though it'd be a perfect fit for their football program.
The big 12 looks set to lose all of their best teams, i would think if anyone is replaced by the MWC it would be the big 12
