The team's second offer was better than the first, Revis said, but still not acceptable to the elite cornerback. Revis admitted that "it's important" for him to become the highest paid player at his position, which means he would have to get more than the $15.1 million that Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha is earning on average. "The season I had last year was crazy," Revis said. "So this is a lot of leverage that I do have right now to get to that second contract and get the money that you deserve. I don't know how long I'm going to play. I could have broken an ankle out there or tore a knee up and my career could have been over." "It's a lot of things," Revis said. "Not just us, a lot teams might try to be cheap this year because they don't know what's going to happen in the future with the lockout. We understand those situations. But also as players, we’re fighting for ourselves... this is our job. I feel guys have outplayed their contracts. Nick Mangold has. D'Brickashaw has. And David Harris as well. You got to stand up for yourself." Revis could lose $20 million in guaranteed money (the amount he's owed in 2011 and 2012 in the Jets' buyback provision) if he misses any mandatory sessions. "That's something that me and my team have to talk to about -- about letting that money go and fighting for something bigger or playing it safe and going to training camp," Revis admitted. "I want to be here. If something comes down the road where I'm not there at training camp or I'm not there the first game, so be it. That's what it is. I'm not trying to be an enemy about this. Revis might be the Christ on the field, but demanding that much money and to be the highest paid CB in the league when he still has 3 years and 21 millions left on his contract, that's fucking retarded. Possibly holding out to renegotiate the contract he held out to get doesn't make it look better either.

Man, the words that he used in that presser sounded an awful lot like a guy named Coles. Nobody on here should insinuate that right now Revis isn't the best all around DB in the NFL, BUT, he and his agent agreed to the contract 3 short years ago and if the million he's due this year was good enough then, it should be good enough now. If this was a walk year I would agree 100% with his stance, but as I recall he did hold out his rookie year before he signed this deal that he now wants torn up...

How hard is it to understand what a negotiation is? For all we know Revis is well aware that he isn't gonna 16 million a year but that shouldn't stop from saying he wants it. He is trying to get every last dollar he can just like the Jets are trying to save every last dollar. He isn't going to acknowledge that Aso's contract is awful because it would compromise his position in negotiations. I swear some of you must pay sticker for cars or something because this is the same concept just on a much larger scale.

It's one thing to play your position, another to try and play everyone elses position...figuratively speaking IMHO what's fair is restructure his current contract to a 3 year deal, allowing him to make more money in the same frame. 3 Years, 36 mil with 24 guaranteed. That way he makes a nice chunk this year instead of waiting to the last year of his deal to get paid. There's no question that Revis making 1 mil a year with no guarantee of the remaining years to be paid put is absurd. Give the man some security and money this year but don't cripple the franchise is such an unknown situation. The thing I like about our FO, while some may hate it, we will never destroy our long term cap situation under Tannys watch and give out stupid deals willingly. Gholstons was due to the rookie scale, not us that's fair on both ends.
I never once called him a bust because he showed improvemnt every year. But he still didn't live up to 4th pick money for his first two years
His agent is notorious for this tactic and it should have been expected. I think things are getting this ugly right now because as much as Revis might talk about not going to camp or not playing in games that is totally unrealistic this year. If he isn't in camp by August 10th he forfeits this year of service and he is still stuck under contract with the Jets for the same amount of time he is right now. His agent is trying to have him throw his weight around while the media doesn't have much else to talk about. It would be nice if players would let this stuff happen behind closed doors but the problem is the only tool they have to put any pressure on their team is the media so as annoying as this may be it's not much to get worked up about. Revis will get paid sometime whether that be tomorrow or next summer is dependant on just how stubborn he and his agent are.
Guys.. it's June. Relax. Tannenbaum will figure it out. If it's mid-August and he's not on the field, then we can worry. I can't believe all the posts here saying fuck Revis and trade him and cut him and yada yada. That's ridiculous.
As I said I'll give you year one but he has been well worth his salary ever since. Not living up to the money is why the league needs a rookie pay scale. Hardly any of the top picks can live up to the money they are paid right away. I would say Sanchez didn't live up to his money last year but when it comes time for him to negotiate a new deal nobody is going to be holding that against him if he has become a top QB.
