    NFL Network

Caught this over the weekend, here is a link to Gastineau's clip--good footage of his career and especially the 1983 fight at Shea with Jackie Slater and the Rams. Good input from Marty Lyons as well.

Right after Gastineau was Michael Strahan at #7, they went into detail about Favre giving him the record sack and how bogus it was. If they really wanted to do it right they would have ranked Gastineau ahead of Strahan.

    The list:

    1-Deacon Jones
    2-Reggie White
    3-Lawrence Taylor
    4-Bruce Smith
    5-Gino Marchetti
    6-Kevin Greene
    7-Michael Strahan
    8-Mark Gastineau
    9-Doug Atkins
    10-Derrick Thomas

Gerry Philbin was included in "Best of the Rest".

I was thinking while I was watching it that my grandfather was probably a huge fan of that guy.

#5 sounds more like a boxer than a football player.

Strahan shouldn't be on the list. Only had 6 double digit sack seasons in 15 seasons, gastineau had 5 double digit sack seasons in 10 seasons(one of which was the 9 game '82 strike shoretened season).

I was watching a rerun of a 2008 San Diego-Denver game where Marshall was abusing Cromartie, which had me worried until I realized we'll be putting Revis on Marshall and Cromartie on whoever else you have, which is nobody, and probably kick your ass twice.

Ok, well if you want me to post there stats for last year I can surely do that....... as long as you post the stats for your WR as well, but I'm sure you dont want to do that, as Miami's WR had better stats than the Jets'. WANNA?

Here comes the troll to screw up another thread.

Gastineau as a person was questionable, but then again, so was Lawrence Taylor.

The fact is, this list is based on physical skills in pass rushing, not how much they donated to charity. In that case, he makes the list as he was a hell of a pass rusher.

Agreed. The NFL Network list usually takes an honest look at both their on-field accomplishments and the guy himself, which makes it an enjoyable watch. Regarding LT, they also mentioned how as a LB he had an easier time getting to the QB most of the time than the typical DE.

That might tend to happen with a team that had the #1 rushing offense in the league and a first year QB with not Vet help.

Henne is going into his third year and Mark has already accomplished more.

Want to compare defensive stats, the year in general? Are you just going to crap on every thread now that you are here?

Hey remember when you had Dan Marino? Remember? Remember that? Yeah that was awesome.

Ronnie Brown will be injured again like he is every season, since he's such a pansy. And I love how you mention Grice-Mullen like he's somebody worth a shit. He will be released in training camp. And what does that have to do with Mark Gastineau?

  20. First of all you're just side-stepping the argument at hand. This was solely about the Dolphins recieving corps vs. the Jets secondary. The fact remains that aside from Marshall, none of your pass catchers are keeping any defensive staffs up at night....nevermind that of the # 1 ranked defense which boasts the game's best corner.

Secondly, the stats argument is bogus. The Jets ran a completely different style of offense than that of the Dolphins..one that resulted in a superior running game.We were also starting a rookie QB w/ 16 starts under his belt, and had an X reciever that joined the team quarter way through the season. When you factor in Sanchez's year 2 progressions, Edwards progressions within the system, Keller's continued development and the addition of Santonio Holmes... your argument looks pretty silly on paper.

I will conceed that the jets passing game has to live up to the hype and prove it on the field..but the talent they can throw on the field in terms of receiving threats is clearly one of the best in the NFL...and at least on paper is far superior to that of Miami's with or without Mr. Marshall.
