Man, judging by this thread, we better get some football pretty freaking soon, that's all I gotta say.....
Do what Philly did back in the day and hold an open tryout. That should be fun to watch. Or just call Tony Danza.
Missed that you already did the research, looks like I did the same as you. Simple point said here is that all kickers miss, if it is not your day, it is not your day. Vanderjagt was one of the most accurrate, and when it came down to it, he missed it in the playoffs. I say give the kid a chance, he may be looked at as well as Feely by the time he gets to his ninth season.
I saw your post right after I replied to dthomas - I'm glad someone else thought to compare their early years. Folk's a Pro Bowl talent that just has to get it together mentally. If he gets his head right, he'll be a great kicker in this league. A lot of fans don't realize how mental kicking is. If you're in this league as a kicker, you have the physical ability to make almost every realistic kicker. Making kicks consistently is all mental.
Another thing I noticed about Folk last year is he started the year great, the first nine games he was right around 82 percent accurate. The last seven games he was off (about 45%). Something happened to him mid season.
He was injured, Jerry Jones was breathing down his back, rushed back, and Jones was still on his case, and his mechanics got out of whack
Yep. I'm looking at his game-by-game stats and it's clear that he fell apart around week 10. I remember Jerry Jones calling him out on television - probably one of the best ways to screw with Folk's head. Folk's numbers: 5 of 6 between the 20 and the 29 yard lines. 6 of 7 between the 30 and the 39 yard lines. 5 of 12 between the 40 and the 49 yard lines. 1 of 2 behind the 50 yard line. After looking over these, it's obvious that he had the most trouble on longer kicks. I remember Folk talking about his hip problems and I found a great quote from him that actually makes a lot of sense:
But that was my point as well. Feely never showed any signs of nervousness. In fact, he almost always exuded confidence when kicking field goals. Most of my complaints/concerns about Folk are centered around his recent history with the Cowboys, and the reports that, for the most part, he's been sucking in OTAs. I never once said he didn't have the talent. I'm saying that for this upcoming season, I would have preferred Feely over Folk, who is a very huge questions mark at this point.
Jay Feely missed two crucial kicks in the playoffs. That's part of the reason why he's gone. For the most part, Clint Stitser sucked during OTAs and that's why a thread about him being waived was possible. Nick Folk didn't miss a kick yesterday. Feely is a mediocre, journeyman kicker that doesn't deserve the kind of respect he's getting from posters like you.
Id be happy with a 70% PK if we had a beast at P I think with our defense a punter is a stronger need for this team then FG's
How long for the Jtrain thread..... This is a big big big loss right up there with the Jets releasing David Harris.
