I said they are even. I wasn't being abrasive. You guys, by far, have the best cornerback in the league...maybe even the best player in the league.

They are nowhere near even. The CB position shouldn't be and isn't about individual talent at all. It's how they play together. Smith and Davis got torched last year TOGETHER, so how you can say we are even at the CB position is far beyond me.

So if it is about how they work together, we have the upper hand. You've seen Cromartie, Revis, and Wilson play together, have you?

lol I'm not trolling, and i'm not picking any fights. I'm playing nicely.

It gets boring when you discuss things on a Dolphin forum and everyone just chimes in to agree with you, is all.

If you all believe that your CB corps is better than the Jets, then you Fin fans are exactly what I think of you. Thanks for proving me right.

Cromartie is a question mark when Davis is "proven"... hahahahaha

2 Rook CB's are better than a superstar Cb. Also that superstar CB helped maintain the number 1 pass defense..while the 2 Rooks had the 24th.

    Get lawst ya clown.

Florida public education system at it's finest, folks!!

the phins aren't even top 10 in cornerback rankings.

i'd put the jets, bengals, browns (seriously...sheldon brown, eric wright and joe haden), saints, eagles, packers, bills, broncos and niners ahead of them.

That said, I think smith has a great amount of upside, especially given his skillset at his size, and so does Vontae. But to even put them in the same breath as the jets is beyond retarded. Those guys are another 2 years away from being even considered in the top 5 cornerback tandems in the league. Gibril Wilson was nothing short of awful, but it's extremely lolable to think that he's the sole reason they're near the bottom of the league in pass defense.

MM just said that because he wants people out there to realize he doesn't play football anymore and is now an analyst. strictly a "shock" value pick. the bengals secondary is legit, but when it's said and done ours will be better. It's a "safe" pick for an analyst, because they've both played together for a couple of years and have been consistent.

That's nice. They work so well together that the Dolphins were 24th in pass defense in 2009. I think your corners have a lot of promise, but the Jets' current secondary, without having played together, is already head and shoulders above the Phins'. And we're going to see the undeniable truth of that in 2010.

Well since you don't quite understand the concept of proper pluralization, I see that you were one of it's victims.

EDIT: This was directed at "jets fan in fishtown"

Please mr. dolphin fan, explain to us how Davis and Smith are proven.

    V. Davis 116 QB Rating when thrown against.
    S. Smith 104 QB Rating when thrown against.
Unproven A. Cromartie 72 QB Rating when thrown against.

To put that into perspective V. Davis on average made QB's look better than, well, every QB in the league. Brees finished with a 109 QB rating and Manning finished with a 107 QB rating. S. Smith on average made QB's look like Aaron Rodgers (103) and Phillip Rivers (104). Cromartie on average made QB's look like an aging, breaking down Mark Bulger or Matt Hasslebeck.

I'd love to hear your explanation of how these two kids are proven and Cromartie isn't.

Darrelle Revis isn't the only reason the New York Jets finished the regular season with the NFL's top-rated pass defense.

Revis, the lockdown left cornerback, gets most of the attention because he's one of the league's elite defenders, regardless of position.

But statistical analysis shows Revis isn't the only Jet giving receivers fits.
    Lowest Burn Percentage
Cornerbacks this season, Min. 50 targets
    Player/Team Percentage
    Darrelle Revis, Jets 37.0
    Jabari Greer, Saints 37.9
    Dwight Lowery, Jets 40.7
    Drayton Florence, Bills 45.3
    Leon Hall, Bengals 45.3
    Lito Sheppard, Jets 45.6

Stats Inc. records what it calls "burns," the number of times a defender allows a reception to the man he's covering. Stats Inc. then divides that by the number of times the defender is targeted to compute a "burn percentage."

Of cornerbacks who were targeted at least 50 times, three Jets cornerbacks ranked among the top six.

Revis was best with 40 receptions allowed on 108 targets for a 37.0 burn percentage.

Part-time starter Dwight Lowery, third on the list, allowed 22 catches on 54 targets for a 40.7 percentage. Usual right cornerback Lito Sheppard was sixth. Sheppard surrendered 26 catches on 57 targets for a 45.6 percentage.

The Buffalo Bills had two among the top 11, another reason why they finished second in pass defense. Drayton Florence was fourth at 43.2 percent, and Reggie Corner was 11th at 47.3 percent. Former Bills cornerback Jabari Greer ranked second at 37.9 percent.

Sean Smith was the Miami Dolphins' best in terms of burn percentage. He ranked 16th, allowing 35 receptions on 73 targets for a 47.9 percentage.

His rookie partner, Vontae Davis, was 61st -- worst among all AFC East cornerbacks who faced at least 50 passes. He gave up 46 catches on 76 tries. That's a 60.5 percent success rate for the offense.

The New England Patriots top cornerback was Leigh Bodden at 19th. He yielded 43 catches on 87 attempts, or 49.4 percent. Darius Burler was 43rd, with 37 receptions on 65 attempts for 56.9 percent. Jonathan Wilhite was 49th with 42 receptions on 72 attempts for 58.3 percent.

I guess the stats that you provided don't bode well for my argument, but last year I saw what I saw. What I saw was a young tandem on the Dolphins that held their own against some of the best, but certainly allowed their share of dumb, rookie mistakes. But I also saw them mature as the year went on, and I also saw them make some astounding plays. The times they got burnt, from my recollection, were mainly from depending on Gibril Wilson at the safety postion. And tight ends torched us last year, but that was more of a safety/linebacker coverage issue that was absolutely addressed this offseason.

This, coupled with the compliments received from the likes of Muhammed and Moss, leads me to believe that my eyes did not deceive me, and that we really do have 2 young studs holding down the cb position. I watched some Jets games last year, and there is no one better than Revis. But, I also have seen the 2 games in the last 2 or 3 years where, when Cromartie was with SD, we owned him...not mention the fact that he got lit up by Ronnie Brown on several different occasions. He was a stud, and maybe being in Ryan's system will help him revert back to his old form, but that doesn't change the fact that the man simply has never been a physical corner, one who shies away from contact.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Kyle Wilson, who was a stud in college, supplants him as the #2 cb on the Jets.
