I've been wondering for the better part of the offseason what exactly we're gonna do with Brad Smith. Here's his 2009 stats: Punt Returns - 2 for 27 yards (not likely he does it next year) Kick-off Returns - 10 for 31.0 yard average (which in reality is 9 returns with a 21 yards average and one for HOLY SHIT!!! :up Special teams D - 15 tackles Rushing - 18 attempts for 207 yards...11.5 yards per play average. If he could keep that up we wouldn't need a QB. Recieving - 7 for 63 yards Passing - 1 for 27 yards and the ultimate "Holy shit maybe we really are going to the Superbowl" moment right before Peyton sucked the life out of us. Sure he's listed as a WR but he should be listed as a WTF. Pretty much any time he's in the huddle something bizarre is about to happen. I hear all the Phins fans down here bitching and moaning that Pat White is a bust as a QB, and it seems like the Wildcat is fading, so I guess the question is do we use him more? Less? Is he always just gonna be for gimmick plays? Does Schotty find a way to get a few more throws for him? Still trying to figure out if that beautiful throw on the Colts was a one-hit wonder or the start of something bigger for him...
i think schotty will find new ways to get him involved. and dont forget, no santonio for the first 4 games, meaning we will be much more inclined to run/use those crazy gadgets that have pretty much been brad smiths entire career. he also might see some more reciever time of course.
He's the Utility guy on our sqaud, obviously mainly a WR, but does other things decently. He can Pass, Run, Throw ( on occasion but the Cotch pass was a bit lucky), Punt and Kick Return. So putting him in one main role wouldnt be smart.
Brad Smith is an interesting player for the Jets. He's probably never going to turn into a legitimate receiver, but for his STs abilities alone you keep a guy like this on your team. He's cheap, and he's an amazing athlete. I view his ability to take a snap and run or pass at the QB spot as the icing on this proverbial cake. We kept James Dearth on this team for years solely due to his kick-ass long-snapping ability. Brad Smith, to me, is far more valuable.
Pat White was a rookie. So he's not "bust" anything. He's another brad smith, they'll figure out how to use him. The wildcat is fading because, well, that was easy to realize. It'll be a package set, the same exact thing the Jets have been using since 06. Smith will always be a gimmick player, but he's a special teams ace, and we need to thank him for that. Smith is not a QB. Everyone needs to understand that the Jets have a QB, and Sanchez throws the ball. And its not a one hit wonder, because he'll get maybe one or two throws a year.
I think teams now are on notice of his other play making ability, had some big runs too. That this will give him more chances to be out there at WR, I think he's more then capable at handling the slot position.
I'm still sure that was a broken play, but even so, this is what makes BS so deadly. When hes on the field other opportunities will open up for other playmakers as well.
There is no chance that was a broken play, it was a perfect play call nearly executed to perfection. Smith will be used exactly how he has been used his entire career. He is a playmaker and STs ace. Some games he will be completely invinsible on O and others he will make big plays whether it is catching, running or throwing. Great player to have on a team..
Cotchery hopped like twice waiting for that to reach him. Way underthrown. That said Brad Smith is definitely a valuable player on the roster and hopefully it works out that we can keep him.
Yeah now that I look at it it was definitely under-thrown. Don't get me wrong I don't have any illusions about him suddenly becoming a staple, but it seems like towards the end of the season Schotty was beginning to get a bead on how/when to use him for some real explosiveness. Put together a package with Jaco/Braylon set wide, Keller in motion, LT and Shon in the backfield and Brad under center...if there's a real threat that he might pass it's DC's nightmare.
the o line was in pass protection on that play. and look at cotch burn right pass the CB, until he notices its a run. then sprinted back down field to make the tackle
that was one of the top 10 games i was ever at. btw i need the ability to make gif's.there is lots of power in this brain who will be my yoda???
I'd like to see couple of option plays each game. If he doesn't see an opening early in the play, look downfield. If WRs are covered, throw it away for just a loss of down while you are out of the pocket anyways.
