I'm predicting Gholston is going to make a lot of people look like asses by the end of the season. Of course, I don't expect any of them to come back and admit. I'll be happy to say I was wrong if I turn out to be, but I'm going to say right now that I firmly believe Gholston is going to have a break out year.
I think everybody on this forum will admit they are jerk-offs if Gholston has a good season. I for one will do it in two seconds.
I like it, too, although it doesn't seem to me, as it seems to a lot of people, that the guy has an attitude. It's nice to see him finally show some sort of humanity, instead of just coming off as an emotionless robot that runs slowly on mass quantities of 100 dollar bills. I really hope that he turns it around with the change of position, because it burns so much to think that that 6th overall pick went down the toilet.
Like everyone came back and said they were wrong about Santonio's iPod incident? No way man. Maybe you will, but the vast majority will either walk away quietly, or say something like "He didn't do enough to make up for the first two years!" As usual, you have the most reasonable response regarding Gholston (I include myself in the unreasonable crowd, for being too much in his corner.) He should tell everyone he's disappointed with himself and needs (and wants) to get better. He should say he needs more playing time; isn't that what we're paying him for? Your attitude towards him is completely fair. He's burned us for two years being such a high pick. So far he's been a bust, and any real Jets fan wants him to turn it around and become a great player. Those who want to release him without giving a position change "one last shot" really enjoy throwing other people's money down the toilet.
I will be the first to admit I'm wrong if Gholston has a break out year. I really hope I'm wrong but I don't see it.
You don't really believe that, do you? An offensive player has a much greater chance of developing after 3 years and turning into a star than a defensive player does just because defense is based way more on reaction and instinct whereas offense is much more predicated on timing and repetition. See Reggie Bush as a great example of this.
The guy is a perennial pro bowler waiting for his 'one shot'. He has established that through out his NFL career...waiting for HIS 'one shot'.
All 3 of them are pretty unproven in the NFL. Its not a good situation, but Rex and the FO know what they are doing. As for Gholston, if he's willing to change and actually be a football player, then I'm all for it. I don't think that's going to be the case. Its an extremely rare case to see someone who is this soft to become a fighter in the trenches.

Your post leaves me wondering exactly what Gholston's value would be if ur not really expecting him to contribute much in the run game, and be brought in (I assume) on 3rd and long situations to rush the passer from the DE spot. I believe, this being Gholston's make or break year, Rex is going to get as much out of him as possible. He's gonna have to for that 6M hit this year. I think for Gholston to be considered a part of this roster going into the regular season, he's gonna have to show more than just a bull-rush on passing situations.
That video was made before he was even drafted. Would like to see a new one. After watching Rex's fan conference the Jets are wholly uninterested in his weight gain. They want him to remain fast and strong.
