I reckon moving him to DE is going to work out, especially as hes bulking up. With his strength he should be able to easily carry the extra weight.
One things certain, he doesn't perform, it could very well be his last NFL team.
Either way I'm pulling for him.

Hes working to bulk up to 270 and is only 260.

According to his bio on nfl.com he was 240 pounds @ age 14, and 260 pounds when the jets drafted him.

How the hell is he still sitting @ 260 ? I mean most of us knew gholston was getting moved to DE a few months ago, he shoulda known this a while ago. For a normal guy you should be able to add at least 2 pounds a month, for a monster like Gholston he really should be ahead on his bulking.

I woulda expected the guy to been able to get up to 275 at least by game time

I really wish a miracle happen and somehow he becomes half of the player he was supposed to be, but this quote made me laugh:

exactly... that's exactly what everybody's saying. *facepalm*

I saw an interview where he said the Jets have asked him to keep his weight down for the OLB position. He said it won't be hard at all to bulk up for the DE position. I think if the Jets had asked him to get to 275 he would be doing it.

Also, Gholston was 266 when he was drafted:

Get to 280 and he would be at an ideal weight for what they want him to do.

i still want him unloaded when it is at all possible. Give that spot to someone who has football instincts.

    Dear Vernon.

For the last time, SHUT THE FUCK UP. You haven't done JACK SHIT in the past two years - and have the nerve to 'SPEAK OUT?' Do something useful before speaking out.

    Sincerely, Zach.

Wouldn't the most ideal time to cut him be right now during the uncapped situation? He's worse than a JAG... he's a gaping hole.

Bulking up to 270 to play 3-4 DE? Probably another Gholston-fail.

I actually prefer he opens his trap. He's been way too quiet the last two years. If we've learned anything in the last year, swagger goes a long way. If Ryan can rub off on him enough to open his stupid trap, maybe he can infuse some of that Rex Ryan confidence onto him.

Dude calm down. It's not like he called a press conference, he's just probably responding to reporters.

I really hope he succeeds, if he really wasn't trying I think he would have gotten cut or traded already Kerry Rhodes style.

He's a bust. Not ONE sack in 29 games? Comon', that's what he's suppose to do. He's played the game how long???

    No! No, no, no...

It's not about a lack of opportunities, and that perception is the precise reason Gholston is an underwhelming player. You make the sacks happen, you earn the playing time.

I'm done with this chode. Love how the interview ends: "A lotta the time, when I fuck up, I know what I did wrong." Kudos to you, Vern. That's the best thing he has to say about his game right now.

I have my doubts that he'll even be servicable, and there's no way in hell he'll ever live up to his draft status.
But let's face it. This defense looks downright scary even with him 100% written off, so pretty much anything we get out of him is icing on the cake.
Personally I can't wait to see him on Hard Knocks, when he's got the whole world watching him be a slack-ass. I think he's gonna be one of the focal points for at least one episode.

Fuck his roster spot, we could use the cap space he's taking up.

Actually, according to www.nyjetscap.com if we cut him next year we save 400 grand on the cap. In terms of cap space it isn't much but his salary would be off the books and maybe gives us some flexibility not for 2011 but for 2012.
