CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS (please correct the title!!!!)

To all those fans that care about how contract negotiations go:

    1) His agent is Kendall's and Baker's agent.

    2) He feels he isn't worth 20 mill BUT Rex, Tanny and himself agree that he is the #1 CB in the league and he should be the highest paid player at his position (FUCK YOU AL DAVIS! Asomugha makes 15.1).

    3) Jets are family for him and they promised to get something done before TC... he promised he'd attend all OTA's but wouldn't commit to not holding out in TC.

    4) He'll recieve an offer from the Jets Monday... if he likes it he'll sign otherwise he'll keep negotiating.

He said all those things in his presser so please don't try to argue with interpretation... I'm not interpreting, just reporting facts.

About the interpretation: he's handling it like a pro. Calm and relaxed and just worrying about his job... The Jets are clearly doing him a favor in renegotiating with him this year (when he's only supposed to make 1 mill) and he really enjoys staying with this team but with that said he realizes it's a business and the numbers need to be right for him to sign. I think thats fair and I hope he signs asap.

I hope we are able to re-sign him and Mangold before TC.

IMO, Revis and Mangold are the most important players to this team, not only are they the best in their respective positions, but are leaders on and off the field, I hope this all works out for the best, I would hate to lose them

My point is... how would Mangold feel if Revis contract gets done before TC and his doesn't? I think they both are the best players in the league at their respective position (Harris is a top 5/6 ILB so not the same thing).

I hope they both get rewarded as they should.

I think Mangold would wait until everyone else left the locker room, then hang himself in the shower with both of his wrists slit open.

I think Mangold would be very disappointed, as he stated he wanted a new contract before the season, I don't know how long it will take for Tanny to finally get a deal that Revis can't refuse, but once that happens, Tanny better start negotiating with Mangold immediately

Something tells me Mangold may not get his contract before TC, but Tanny will not let Mangold get away from this team, he knows how important he is

Haha then we have to worry about Harris, good God, i'm hoping next off-season we deal with him first and foremost, maybe have an offer for him sometime in the season

All of this could go either way, but I just don't see any of these 3 leaving this franchise

I agree they are the two most important. Hard to argue with that. Getting both contract situations fixed is something all Jet fans need to hope for.

Give the man an 5 year/80m contract and call it a day. Hes 25 and going to be the best lockdown corner in the league for a guaranteed 5 more years and most likely 10.

Is anyone else concerned about the size of these contracts?

To me, what it most likely says is that Revis and/or Mangold almost certainly won't retire as Jets. Contracts this huge are rarely sustainable over more than, what, three seasons? As soon as one of these guys drop in production, even the slightest, the FO will be questioning the contract numbers. And if they refuse to rengotiate, someone's getting let go.

My hope is that Tanny writes these contracts up in a way that will benefit both sides, but also take into account the reality of players declining in production over time. Some big up-front money for the first few seasons, followed by incentive based years on the latter half of the contracts sound like the right way to go, IMO.

I want to see all these guys, but Revis and Mangold especially, stay in Green and White till they hang 'em up...

well, if we DONT redo revis' contract, we owe him $1M this season and $20M over the next 2.

That's about $21M or $7M/season on average for the next 3 years.

Offer him a $3M/season raise ($10M/season). He'll get $9M more over the next 3 seasons, which is the life of his rookie contract.

^^ that could work, but he kinda wants 15-18 mil a season... so not sure why he would accept just 10 mill per

    doing the math:

    if revis gets $20M/yr,

    that's $2.5M per game (8 home games)

    that's $50,000 per snap (50 def snaps/game)

all 50,000 fans will each pay revis $1 dollar per snap, and $50 per game.

revis christ that's a lot of jack.

one of them is going to have to get it done first to know how the other needs to be structured. Revis is going to make more, so it makes sense to get his done first so Tanny can figure out how to best fit Mangold's in.
