Wait a minute football players get paid, and get pissed when they don't have nice long deals.... my mind is just blown.
Nice to hear Harris saying that he's just here to play football though. I'm sure Tanny will get it done with Brick, Mangold and Harris. The question will be Holmes or Edwards and if we can afford Cromartie. But if Wilson plays well he might be expendable.
he can want that, but QBs don't make that much money... nnamdi is making the average of the top 5 QB's, is only getting a shade over 15 mill this season, no way in hell does revis get 20 mil plus
Well, I guess then it will be fuck him too. Like Washington and the others before him he will end up playing in KC or St Louis. Ig he's really lucky he will ge to play for Al Davis.
lol im pretty sure the 20 million figure is completely made up. Either that or so its people dont turn against revis when his agent comes out and only ask for 12 or 13million a year or something. All you have to do is go look at the contracts of the top paid players in the league and realize theres no chance he gets 20 million a year. Id say 13million a year is the absolute MAX that he could even dream of getting. And if Revis is supposed to get an extension wouldnt it have to be similar to the Kolb/Willis deals where a shit ton of it is guarenteed bonus money which wont ever count against the salary cap ? If thats the case, I could give a shit if they give him 30 million a year.
so far as i know there's no way to pay a player without it counting against the cap. if there was, why even bother having a cap?
Because the way that paying the guy without it counting against the cap I believe almost 100% of the money has to be guaranteed and given as a bonus over this season and next. IE Revis would get some shitty contract giving him say 1 million a year for the next 7 years, while getting like a 45 million dollar 100% guaranteed bonus this year and again next year. (extreme example albeit) Im not sure if thats exactly how it works, but im pretty sure thats how the Kolb deal got done, and possibly the Willis one. And it only works out that way because of the uncapped year and all that money has to be guaranteed.
Well I'm pretty sure his point was that this year is an uncapped year. So any up-front bonus money that we pay in a contract this offseason will not count against next years (assuming that a CBA is worked out again.) salary. So if there's ever a time where we pay big money up front to our star/stars.. .that time is now.
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Sunday-at-the-Post-7875.html The Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis are set to begin contract talks, and the word I’m hearing is that Revis and his agent, Neil Schwartz, are looking for an average that exceeds $20 million per year — which will make the contract rather hard to do. Schwartz and Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum don’t have the smoothest of relationships (that’s putting it mildly) as evidenced by the negotiation over Revis’ rookie contract. This will not be an easy contract to get done, especially anytime soon. The Jets have several players waiting on new deals, from center Nick Mangold to offensive tackle D’Brickawshaw Ferguson. It will be a huge challenge for the Jets to get deals done for all their players, and don’t forget that quarterback Mark Sanchez signed a five-year deal last year. If he plays well, they’ll have to deal with a new deal for him in the next two years. Winning makes doing contracts tougher. The “Disease of Me” is in play in New York. In case you forgot the meaning:
I love Revis Christ as much as anyone but $20+ mill a year??? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!!!! Take $14-15M a year and don't be a greedy fuck about it like $15M a year is chump change.
I am thinking we should give Fergeson and extension before the other three because he has been loyal enough not to whine about getting a new contract. Let the whiners wait for their extensions.
