he's still only 23, so there's hope for him, but i'd rank him now as 4th biggest jet's draft bust: after blair thomas, drob & the unfortunate lam jones
Richard Todd ? Are you kidding me ? He was a #6 pick...he ran the wishbone for Bear Bryant and yet was expected to be a passing QB in the NFL. As it was, he did have a few pretty good seasons. You can't even call him a bust -- busts don't take you to the playoffs in consecutive years and rally you to 2 stirring comeback victories on the road vs. Cincy and Oakland in 1982-83. Todd was a better-than-average QB who was done in when the Jets geniuses at the top decided that they didn't want to lose Joe Walton and elevated him to HC. He was the first of many top-notch OCs or DC's who were TERRIBLE at being a HC. Naturally, most Jet fans and beat writers at the time applauded the move. I did not. I still think there was a good chance of the Jets winning a Super Bowl from 1983-87 with Todd and Walt Michaels running that team. The opening day victory over San Diego on the road in 1983 was a fakeout that heralded 6 years of mediocrity under Walton.
yeah i know the answer to my question is the answer to the op's question. Drob still wins this even though he ended up a serviceable player for a few years. i think the switch to de will turn gholston into a JAG type player so i don't think he will be seen as the biggest jets bust ever.
If he continues in the road he's on now. And retires at 25 which is very possible, he will be our biggest bust of all time. But hopefully he can do something in the NFL, even work in as a rotational DE. Unfortunately the only reason I think this is a possibility is that he's so good in madden.
Sorry dude, my first poll...just wanted to see if you thought the guys above are bigger busts than Veronica
No Roger vick? No mike haight? Go through the Jets first round picks and you can find worse picks than the poll put up there.
if he retires following this year after having done nothing, then he is the biggest bust we ever had. I don't get the D-rob hate, he was serviceable, and never lived up to expectations, but at least he played and was a starter for 5 years. Yeah we gave up a ton to get him, but at least he was useful, Gholston on the other hand is so bad he wouldnt have even made an NFL roster if he was a 6th round pick as opposed to a 30 million dollar man...
Some of these choices offered make no sense. Todd was a not a bust, not a top flight QB but had some solid years. Brady for a first round pick wasn't great, but overall, a great powerful blocker. Robertson was not a complete lost, I wouldn't call him so much a bust as a dissapointment, he at least did something. This poll needs work. I agree, where is Roger Vick and Haight. Hell if this is the way you are going to go, put Lageman up there too, since he was decent, but not great.
Lam Jones and Blair Thomas? Now those are two that I cannot disagree with. Mitchell to a lesser extent, he showed some flashes of his athletic ability. How did that saying going, Body of Adonis, Head like Mattel?
Anyone putting DRob in the same category as Gholston just has no clue. Drob was a starter and pretty good for a few years while Gholston can't even get on the field. As of right now Gholston is the biggest bust in Jets hisory.
