http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_seasonticket/2010/05/smiley-situation-close-to-resolution.html I'm not real comfortable with our current LG situation and Smiley has been good when on the field for the Dolphins. I don't know a heck of a lot about him, but what do you guys think?
I think if we cut fanenca which was clearly to pave the way for the young guys then we have to let the young guys duke it out. If we sign Smiley or any other LG for that matter its kind of going against the purpose of cutting Faneca and in that case we should of kept Faneca from the get go. They are clearly on a course to inject youth and if thats the case then the Jets should stay on that path IMO. Once they are done fighting for the spot and either duccase or slausen have emerged then I think bringing in a vet for depth is fine. But to throw another guy into the mix now may hurt the competition for the spot and possibly set the young guys back a little.
I'm not very intrigued by Justin Smiley. Being cut by the Fins who don't have great depth on their OL speaks volumes. He's a bandaid too.
I'm all for the infusion of youth, but not at the cost of performance when we have a team with a legit shot to challenge for a superbowl. At the very least he'd provide solid depth and some information about the fins offense.
And he'd also take reps away from the youth in training camp. I'd rather them focus on the job at hand rather than having now worry about a 3rd guy in the mix. If there is a vet available after a starter has emerged and I am ALL for it and in fact this its needed, but not before then IMO. To be honest I'm against getting rid of Faneca entirely and its the only move this offseason that really upset me...but that's not the topic at hand.
doesn't this guy have a piece of scotch tape holding his shoulder in place? I'm all for increasing our oline depth.....but not if this guy can't stay healthy.
Yes and he can not stay healthy. A shoulder problem for an offensive lineman is a death knell. Fuhgedaboutit.
what are you a wise guy? from what i've read the shoulder issue has been overblown, but i have no clue. Not staying healthy wouldn't be such a big deal with the young guys behind him ...
i have this feeling the fins fans are going to be extremely pissed at some point in time this year that Taylor is in Green. Almost 10 seconds later, Jets fans are going to be thanking the world the fins let us have this reject...
You saying I smell of garlic and like to whack people? I don't know how bad his shoulder problems are as I am not an insider. However, he has had surgery and missed multiple games every year he has been on the Fins. I don't think he is a cancer or anything just can not stay very healthy. At this point I just don't see him being a real help to the Jets but I have been wrong on very very very very very rare occasions.
He's like a Pennington of LGs. A LG without an arm. Do you want him? I sure don't. P.S. If my memory serves me correct, he had like one complete season under his belt. Other than that... he missed multiple games per season due to injuries. You know, that's Pennington-esque performance to me. P.S.2 Ok. He had two complete seasons after the rookie season. After that, not one complete season as a starter. HELL NO.
well you obviously don´t spend much time looking at the dolphins roster, both their D and O Line have lots of depth
I trust Callahan, and think that it will be Slauson that beats anyone else to the job. Callahan has also coached Slauson in CFB, so he knows what hes capable of.
I never mentioned their DL. Tell me who is replacing Smiley and why you think he will work out for them.
We should consider any vet that gets cut, I think our LG situation is far from being settled. They will be trying to upgrade up through training camp.
He missed one game last year. Big Deal. I'd take that any day. His injury concern gives us leverage in contract negotiations. I just don't see why missing one game last year makes him a huge injury risk. To me, it seems like his 'arm' is getting better and better. But whatever.
