No one else is apparently motivated to start a thread, so I guess I will. 1-1 through 8 innings with of course the daily Nieve sighting.
In his last 6 appearances Nieve has a WHIP of 2.08 and an ERA of 6.23. I'm looking forward to seeing him pitch tomorrow.
Good game guys... Josh Johnson vs. Johan Santana is always fun to watch...and beating the Mets never gets old
I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but please fire Howard Johnson. I loved the guy when I was a kid, but he was a straight up all-or-nothing fastball hitter. The guys in this lineup bat just like he did. They can't hit any breaking or slider stuff and they're all pretty much striking out at an alarming rate. Guy on 2nd base with no out in the 9th inning and they can't even move him to third. I bet everyone was shocked (shocked!!) that happened. Manuel's a fucking moron, but, then again, anyone (besides the Wilpons) that watches this team consistently knows this. And, I know J. Johnson's a great pitcher, but Johan gets no support again. Story of his 2 plus years here.
Let's try this... come up with some other way for the Mets to lose a game: 2nd and 3rd, Reyes up, one outs, Mets down by a run, bottom of the ninth. Reyes actually laces a double down the left field line. Both runners should score easily and are right on top of each other about to cross home plate and win the game. In fact the left fielder is not even playing the ball, but walking off the field. All of a sudden, the man in front trips on untied shoelaces, causing the runner behind him to pass. Both are out, and the Mets lose the game.
on the way back to .500 without a fight. it was fun with my head in the sand while it lasted, but my ass is getting tanner than my face.
Well this is more along the lines of what we expected , guess that 7 game win streak was a nice tease for all of us. Maybe there is hope as nobody else in the division is playing exceptionally well but this nagging injury to Pelfrey has me scared that he could be heading to some DL time. He says it's ok but I'm not sure.
The only question is how much of a bye bye. IMO putting him in the bullpen would be a complete waste of time - he really belongs in the minors. Given that he's about 5 MPH slower than he was a couple of years ago, maybe they can spare him humiliation by putting him on the DL and then spending the rest of the year in Florida in "rehab" (cue Amy Winehouse - "They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, 'No, no, no'").
