nice, thanks for the update. yeah, i see your core guys staying and some of the riff-raff, like Holmes not making the cut. Either way, you're stacked for a sick run this year. Good luck!

feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but the Jets would be more than capable of buying back the next two years. The jets would also be morons not to do it, thus he is essentially locked up for two more seasons.

Not saying its a bad thing to go the almighty himself first, just that I thought for sure Mangold would be first up since his contract is most definately up after this season.

Also to those of you saying he is only making $1 million, Revis is well aware the Jets are going to make him the highest paid defensive player in league history. He would most definately have been taken care of next offseason, so its not like he would have to do much more than survive the next year before becoming one of the NFL's 10 richest men, ever.

I know you are just being sarcastic, but for the people who might not realize you are... even if he gets hurt next season, i would bet money, we still give him a deal in the Nate Clements range... which was what 80 mill?

Revis has to get extended immediately if that is how he feels. He may go down as the best Jet ever whether gets a SB ring or not(sorry Joe, Curtis). Contracts that have to be extended in order in my opinion has to be Revis then DBrick then Mangold then Harris, who is a very distant 4th. Mangold is better then DBrick but LT is a much more important position then C. I haven't seen Brick mentioning anything about his contract wanting to be redone so if that is the case, Mangold will follow Revis. Harris is awesome but he is also injury prone and MLB is an easy position to fill so I don't see him breaking the bank.

    Get it done Tanny!!!!!

I wish these assholes would get the labor situation straightened out already, I'm tired of hearing about it "muddying the waters" every time we want to keep one of our good young players. We already lost Leon because of it, it's getting old.

    Exactly right!!!

Revis (agent) wanted a 4 year contract..Jets wanted 6 years.

Details Out on Darrelle Revis’ Contract
Posted on August 17th, 2007 by Bassett
First, I want you to keep in mind what the picks before and after Darrelle Revis got contractually:

•#13 — DE Adam Carriker, signed a 5 year contract with $9.4 million guaranteed.
•#15 — LB LawrenceTimmons, signed a 5 year contract with $8 million guaranteed.
So the Jets could have come down somewhere between those two, but instead, they inked a paper that will do the following, according to Rich Cimini’s blog:

•It includes $11 million in guarantees.
•The first four years are worth a total of $16 million.
•The deal voids after four years if Revis hits 35% playing time in the first year or 45% in any of the next three years.
•If it voids, the Jets have the option of buying back the fifth and sixth years. The fifth year would cost $5 million. The sixth year would cost $9 million or $11 million or $13 million or $15 million, depending on a complicated points system.
•If it voids after the fourth year, the Jets can’t use the franchise or transition tag on him. The only way they could prevent him from becoming a free agent is to exercise the buy backs.
So basically the deal extends the likely guaranteed money rate for an extra year, guarantees him some nice paychecks towards the end of the deal (should the Jets want to keep him) rather than starving him on minimums, and basically sets up the sixth year as a “Franchise Player”esque contract year without using the actual tags on him (thus maybe allowing them two such players in that year … interesting concept).

Anyway, Tannenbaum gets what he wanted with a six year deal in place, while Neil Schwartz gets what he wants … crazy loot. This should be interesting to watch play out.

^ It's only interesting if Revis retires a Jet.

No. The conversation was about $16 - 20 million. It was 5-6 years, $100 million that was proposed and that people said was too much for a corner.

I'd be very much in favor of falling in that 10 - 12 million range. The nice part is, the way his contract was structured actually makes it very easy to spread the money out, increasing this and next season and diminishing 2012 by a few million, plus extending him out by a few extra years.

The guy made $6 million in "salary" (base and roster bonus) last season, which means he can be increased to nearly $8 million in base if need be. There's a ton of room to work with. Get this done and then work on Mangold!

Yes, but the buyback option is firmly in the team's control. Either way, Revis should be the easiest deal to renegotiate under the 30% rule.

    Here's Cimini's article.

Interesting that Revis is represented by the same agent of Chris Baker and Pete Kendall, and we all know what happened there.

Plus it looks like the Jets "promised" him a new deal before the season starts...we've heard that one before.

    Revis' agent meeting with Jets
    By Rich Cimini
    ESPNNewYork.com

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- When the season ended, the Jets quietly started to negotiate a long-term contract extension for star cornerback Darrelle Revis. In fact, his agent arrived at the Jets' facility Thursday morning for face-to-face talks. But hold everything: Things could get sticky as the discussions move toward training camp.

Revis, due to make $1 million for the coming season, told ESPNNewYork.com that the Jets promised him a new contract by the start of the regular season. That seems curious, considering they own Revis' rights through 2012. It can create a slippery slope when a team makes a promise like that, and the Jets have been accused in the past of reneging with other players.

"That's their word. That's what they said," said Revis, standing by his locker. "If you go back on your word, it's a problem."

Even though the Jets' initial proposals weren't close to his asking price, according to sources, the All-Pro cornerback remains hopeful a deal can be struck by the start of the season. Revis didn't issue any threats, but he also wouldn't guarantee he'd report to training camp Aug. 1 under his existing contract.

    Jets blog

Jets Looking for more information on the green and white? ESPNNewYork.com has you covered. Blog

"I don't know," he said. "I guess we'll figure it out when July 31 comes. As of right now, we have a bunch of months to get things done. We'll see. I trust those guys. But I also know this is a business as well. [But] we believe them at their word. If you go back on your word, in general, in world society, when you go back on your word, it's a problem. It's just a problem."

The Jets couldn't be reached for immediate comment. The team has a policy of not commenting on contract negotiations.

Revis is an unusual situation because of the type of contract he signed as a rookie in 2007. It was a six-year deal, but he reached playing-time incentives in the first year and it voided to a four-year, $16 million contract. He already has made $15 million, an above-market salary for the 14th overall pick. But now it drops to $1 million, a seemingly ridiculous salary for a player who finished second in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting.

But here's where it gets tricky: The Jets have the option of buying back the fifth and sixth years for $20 million. They consider that a mere formality and, therefore, consider it a six-year contract. Remember, the two sides engaged in an acrimonious dispute in Revis' rookie year, resulting in a three-week holdout.

Revis is represented by New York-based agent Neil Schwartz, who also sparred with the Jets in contract disputes with Pete Kendall and Chris Baker. In those cases, the players, no longer with the team, accused the Jets' front office of breaking promises.

Revis is one of several Jets looking for new deals. On Wednesday, All-Pro center Nick Mangold, entering the final year of a five-year deal, said he'd like a new contract. Linebacker David Harris, a rising star, is entering the final year of a four-year deal. He told ESPNNewYork.com that he's happy with the Jets, but echoing Mangold's remarks, he'd like long-term security.

GM Mike Tannenbaum is going to be a busy man over the next few months, trying to satisfy his star players. The NFL's uncertain labor situation has complicated matters, especially with the Mangold and Harris negotiations.

They're being hurt by the new 30 percent rule, which states that salaries in a renegotiation can grow only by 30 percent from one year to the next. Revis is less impacted by the rule because he made more than the minimum last season. Teams can get around the rule by doling out ridiculously high signing bonuses, but they're leery of that because of a looming work stoppage in 2011.

Revis said he doesn't want his negotiations to "get out of hand," as he hopes to keep things positive. But he also believes he deserves a new deal even if the Jets contend he still has three years left.

"I outplayed it, so it really doesn't matter," Revis said.

There were a couple of users that weren't going to be too happy for a $12mil per year contract for Revis. And that discussion was if Revis becomes a FA three years from now. And that was considering the salaries increases over time, bidding war, player in his prime, no cap...As discusses earlier, 6 year $100 mil was not Revis' value, just an offer he might get if he were to be a free agent. Not happening and that makes this whole thing a moot point.

I would prefer he gets his extension out of the way and is signed through 2017 atleast (he is basically signed until 2012 right now anyways). By 2017, he would be 31, still in the back end of his prime and could still easily get another 3-4 year contract extension depending on his play the previous year.

I'd imagine they're looking to spread the wealth out and move money to this season. If he is extended to 2017, he'd be looking at essentially an 8 year deal. I don't know if the team does that. 2014 or 2015 seems much more likely to me. If he were to somehow pull 8 years, we'd probably be looking at close to a $100 million contract.

As far as people not wanting to drop $12 million on him, I'd have to see the new cap to be able to determine that. It's all dependent on percentages of revenue.

As usual Cimini looks at the negative side of things in his article. I really think some priest wearing a Jet hat sexually abused him when he was a kid.

That being said there is still 3-4 months to get this done. The Jets came to him so there shouldn't be any unrealistic expectations on either side.
