What's your prediction for this afternoon? Still think he'll pitch well? I expect him to pitch "okay" only giving up 3-4 runs over 6. His job has to be at risk at this point. Mitre could replace him next go-round if Andy returns as expected and he doesn't give a solid effort. I think this is make-or-break for him. Interesting, the rainout might help us. The pen is rested after Mitre's outing now. Everyone will be available this afternoon. It might put a little more pressure on Hughes if we need a lot of arms this afternoon, but if we can get by with less bullpen calls early, then we could walk away with both games.
The rainout might help the Yanks short in these two games (although I'm not really sure how), but it hurts them in the longer run. Now they'll either need to start Vazquez on 3 days rest Sunday (bad idea), or start Sanchez or Nova (or Mitre), skipping Vazquez again. Or if they don't skip Vazquez and just bump him back, that means he'll be facing Boston at the Stadium.
Greg Golson brought up to replace Aceves who was DL'd today for his back. Who the hell is in charge of conditioning?! Does anyone else read Golson and chringe a little bit? I read yesterday that Chan Ho Park is making rehab appearances this week, and should be available this weekend to rejoin the club. Gardner got a promotion today. He's batting second. Swisher back to the 7 hole. Jeter SS Gardner CF Teixeira 1B ARod DH Cano 2B Posada C Swisher RF Winn LF Pena 3B And everyone's favorite NL superstar Javy Vazquez on the mound!
Say what you want about Granderson and/or Johnson's performance so far this year, but today's a good example of how much shorter the lineup is and how the pitcher's job is much easier without them in there. Yanks had some tough luck with the line drive outs, but Porcello was able to get through seven innings with 91 pitches. That isn't as likely to happen with those other two guys in there.
arod was robbed of a HR and Jeter of a double and a single. of course. the bats better show up tonight.
