Carlos Zambrano continues to suck, so the Cubs have moved him to the bullpen. It wasn't hard to see that a lazy person like Zambrano would be a bad investment, but what did the Cubs do? Give him a long term deal for big money. Now they can pay huge money to an out of shape guy who will just keep cashing their paychecks.
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/...tension-with-phillies?tag=globalNav.mlb;cover SAN FRANCISCO -- Ryan Howard signed a $125 million, five-year contract extension through 2016 with the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday that includes a club option for 2017. The 30-year-old slugging first baseman will make $20 million each in 2012 and 2013 and $25 million annually from 2014-16. The Phillies have a $23 million club option for 2017 with a $10 million buyout. The $25 million guaranteed average salary in the extension will be baseball's second-highest behind Alex Rodriguez's $27.5 million average under a 10-year contract with the Yankees running through 2017. Howard, the 2005 NL Rookie of the Year and '06 league MVP, is earning $19 million this season as part of a $54 million, three-year deal that pays him $20 million in 2011, the final season before he would've been eligible for free agency. ============== I don't think he's worth that kind of money.
Padres improve to 15-8 (9-2 @ PETCO)... I'm very surprised with how well they've started off. The entire pitching staff (minus Mat Latos) has played extremely well so far. Watch out for Wade LeBlanc - he's been absolutely dominant this season...0.52 ERA with 3 starts. Dude's got a nasty curve. Losing Everth Cabrera for a little bit looked like it would be a tough loss but Hairston Jr. has really stepped up lately. A-Gon has been great, as usual...sucks that he's probably not in the long term plans.
Olsen had 7.1 no hit innings against Atlanta tonight Ross single breaks it up. Also Matt Cain took a no hitter into the 6th at Florida. Good news for the Giants, as he hadn't been pitching well since the beginning of last season.
Does it really matter for them right now? Barry Zito has turned back into his old self. I'm still waiting for hitters to start crushing this guy's curve again.
Giants pitchers are prooving me wrong, when I said they'd settle in and not be so hot. They're the surprise of the league ATM. .026 against Zitos' curveball this year. Incredible.
Their pitching staff is killing it right now. Do you think they'll call up Bumgarner to be their fifth starter any time soon?
Having another ace? I'd say so. Wild game in Texas. Soria just blew a lead by allowing back to back jacks. 13-12 Rangers
I doubt it...Sabean was really upset with him for the way he went into Spring Training. He got married and had personal matters, but he didn't pitch much at all, and could barely hit 90 in Spring. Not to mention he has a +5 era in Fresno... I hope he stays in Fresno all year and actually prepares himself next offseason. He played himself out of a 5th spot this year, and Wellemeyer sucks. I've heard a few people saying Eric Hacker and Henry Sosa could find their way to the pros at some point this year, but I wouldn't hold my breath. The Giants will need to pick up at least 1 starter at the deadline, and at least 1-2 bullpen guys...The pen has been barely above average. They're a hot mess, relying heavily on their pitching. Buster Posey will almost assuredly make his way back up the majors on a full time status this season, he has been batting pretty consistantly. Joe Borchard has been displaying a bit of power, so he's probly tryign to lock in a September call up spot.
This is sarcasm right? Cain has a 2.89 ERA since the beginning of last season. Why would they? He's a bust. He has an ERA of 5.25 in AAA right now and has lost 5-10 MPH off his fastball. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/3239/giants-bumgarner-struggling-in-triple-a
He struggled after the AS break last season and in April this season, which is what I was referring to. He was lights out pre-AS break in 2009, but he fell off after that, specifically in August through the end and there was cause for concern.
That is not true at all. He suffered greatly from the Giants lack of offense/defense, I mentioned it as much last year several times. His era increased by .020 in August and September. He had 2 outtings where he pitched under 6 innings in 12-15 starts. Yes, he was allowing more hits and runs, but that was mostly in part to the Giants as a whole collapsing. They had no offensive production and the defensive side was pathetic.
It looks like he's become a bust. He definitely wasn't doing that bad last year. I guess he's not that important for the Giants with Zito pitching well. Linecum, Cain, and Sanchez are just nasty. Wellemeyer needs to be replaced - he's pretty terrible.
Matt Cain would be a #1 pitcher on most teams. After looking at his stats, I have no idea what you're talking about. He's 2-1 with an ERA under 3.00. Two of his starts became no decisions because the Giants either couldn't score or the bullpen blew a small lead. His only loss was a 2-0 vs. the Cardinals. Their entire rotation, minus the god awful Todd Wellemeyer, has all started the year off great. Would you say that Sanchez has struggled because he's 2-2? One of his losses was a 1-0 loss to my Padres...Sanchez only allowed ONE hit. I still don't know how he lost that game.
I said it's good news for the Giants that Cain is pitching well, you said it doesn't really matter. I said another ace helps, and now you're saying he's really good. Sanchez has been great.
Twins/Orioles tonight PPD first Twins game in 30 years postponed by rain. Last night's game was interrupted, but they managed to complete it after a delay. http://www.startribune.com/local/93098829.html?elr=KArksc8P:Pc:UHDaaDyiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU
Does it really matter when the three of the five starters have been consistently dominant? I also said that before I looked up his stats, because like an idiot, I took your word for it. Four out of the five pitchers in the Giants' rotation have been amazing so far.
yes, another ace always matters. Here are Cain's stats towards the end of 2009 and his first few starts of 2010: August 2009: 0-2, 3.74 ERA September/October 2009: 2-3, 5.22 ERA 2010 first start: 6.2 IP, 4 R, 3 ER second: 6 innings, 3 ER third: 6 innings, 2 ER fourth: 5 innings, 2 ER So as you can see, he had not been pitching up to his usual standards over a span of like 12 starts. Then he started turning it around. So like I was saying, it'd be huge for the Giants if Matt Cain started pitching like we're used to him pitching. Deep into games, dominant, etc.
