Looking at the New York Jets right now, I would be happy if they would cut ties with Bryan Thomas and move onto free agent Adalius Thomas. Adalius already knows Ryan's scheme like Bart Scott, and even though he is two years older than Bryan Thomas, he makes a bigger impact on the football field. I just hate the whole final eight ruling which is just ridiculous and handcuffs the teams that are willing to spend money to sign free agents but the JETS have done a good job navigating around it with their offseason thus far.
bryan thomas is one of the top 3-4 OLB against the run and is valuable in our system. sack numbers don't tell all.
Bryan was the 2nd best 3-4 OLB in the entire NFL last year against the run.........he's not going anywhere, nor should he be.
We need him against the run for sure. Our run defense was ranked 8th I think? Taking him out would hurt us.
QFT... The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.
Also I don't think Adalius Thomas at his age can play as many snaps as Bryan Thomas can. Adalius is known for harassing the QB as well correct? Not known for stopping the run, but I dunno.
Exactly. I actually hope the Jets sign him, if that tells you anything. Before he became a locker room problem he was a healthy scratch for a game.
The F8 rules have nothing to due with this. Adalius was cut, and Bryan would have to be cut, as well. He's not a free agent.
Bryan Thomas and Jason Taylor should make for a damn near perfect platoon this year......Bryan on 1st and 2nd downs, and/or short yardage, with Taylor in on passing downs to rush the QB.
The "healthy scratch" may have been because of locker room issues. The last thing Pats fans should want is a pissed off Thomas playing you two games a year. But unless Ryan is able to get a lot more out of Thomas than Belichick could for the past two years (which is certainly possible but Belichick's a pretty good coach), the last thing the Jets should want is the other 14 games from a 33 year old linebacker coming off of two consecutive crappy years where he's been a clubhouse cancer and had a lot of problems with his perceived effort. Plus you're talking about a second back-up linebacker; you want that player to be a serious special teams guy and that's not Thomas at this stage of his career. EDIT: On the what did Thomas do: showed up late to practice, groused about how he was not being used properly both on the record and off the record to reporters, apparently bitched and moaned about the defensive schemes in meetings, didn't put in extra hours at practice, that kind of stuff.
We need B. Thomas against the run. Taylor was brought in to rush the passer and Pace does a nice job of doing it as well. We shouldnt give up one of our best run stoppers to add another guy to help rush the passer. If anything the Jets should just sign him and use him in select packages.
I've been decidedly neutral on the prospect of signing Adalius Thomas, but if it meant that Bryan Thomas would be shipped off of this team, my neutrality would turn into all out hostility. With a situational pass rusher like Taylor brought in, Thomas can even better fill his role as a stout rush defender. He's a vital part of the team right now and shouldn't be going anywhere.
the only way bringing in the other thomas would be a good move is if he was gonna be used in much the same way as jason taylor. pass rushing specialist.
