Not reading through that article. Just want to say that I'm really glad that we drafted our QB last year rather than this year. Some of the guys picked this year just look awful.

Wow I was not aware of this.. "In games where Jets' quarterbacks threw one interception or less, the Jets were 11-2. 2 or more interceptions? 0-6."

I absolutely expect Sanchez to greatly reduce the amount of turnovers this year. We don't need him to be a super star who puts up 4,000 yards passing. We just need him to not turn it over, move the chains, and let the running game and defense dominate.

Had we gone 8-8 and not made the playoffs this whole offseason would've been about calling fo Sanchez's head. But instead he got a ton of experience in the playoffs and basically got through his rookie campaign with a whole lot learned and very few consequences.
Whatever switch flipped in his head after the Atlanta game looks like it's gonna stay lit. He's still gonna have his share of picks but as long as they're spaced out we should be fine.
As for the backup situation yeah we gotta get someone because no one on this team has much faith in Clemens and judging from the fact that we couldn't unload him on draft day I don't think anyone else in the leauge does either.
    It can wait til July...

The Jets desperately need a viable backup if they do nto think Clemens is the answer. Well is there anyone that does? Sadly, if Sanchez goes down the season is kaput anyhow.

Anyway, this season's success hinges on whether Sanchez improves from last year and the Jets can get a 15-20/10-12 TD/INT ratio. That would be a significant cut down on Int's and increase in TD's. If he can do that or at least get to 50/50, which is still a drastic improvement, lookout. It will be one fun season. At least there will not be any laydown noise this year.

Any idiot calling for Sanchez's head after struggling as a rookie should have been perma-banned immediately...with an electric drill and about 12 gallons of hot tar.

You're right...but he'd also have a lot more questions to answer people. The playoffs alleviated a lot of doubts I don't mind a bad rookie season, but he didn't show a whole lot during the regular season.

It's a what have you done for me lately league in terms of both the teams and the fans. The latest thing he did was put up a 300 yard game.

He's not a great QB yet but he is making strides. I fully expect the beginning of this season to look similar to the end of last season before the playoffs; more handoffs than throws. The playbook is going to expand as the season progresses, probably with a few more short/intermediate/screen passes a few weeks into the season with the deep game expanding more toward the back end of the schedule. The dumbest thing the CS can do is drop everything on him at once.

Actually he hasn't put up a 300 yard game. His best was 272 in the Houston opener

Bollocks. I fucked that one up. That yardage stat always seems to get higher in proportion to my BAC.

Personally I think Sanchez played MUCH better than most give him credit for. He had 3 awful games that really skew his numbers terribly. I think he was at least as good as Ryan and Flacco were their first years.

The only switch that happened after the atlanta game was the coaching and playcalling, they finally started leaning really heavy on the running game instead of treating sanchez like he was already Joe Namath.

He really did show us flashes during the regular season. He had 4 really bad starts, @NO, Buf, @NO and Atl. He threw 15 of his 20 interceptions in those 4 starts. He had 5 interceptions thrown in the other 11. This despite the fact that when he played he played the whole game, not getting jerked like Elway and Bradshaw did during their worse rookie seasons.

I still believe strongly that Brian Schottenheimer almost torpedo'd Sanchez career in the Buffalo game. Everything was working for the Jets offensively and Schottenheimer could not resist airing it out like a fool in the second half in bad weather.

I look at last season and I see Sanchez well ahead of the pace of a bunch of really good QB's who started as rookies. He had better support than a lot of them but he also showed us a lot when he wasn't asked to do silly things by his coaches.

I completely agree. The way Sanchez was used in the Buffalo game was a travesty. The Jets were running the ball at will and were shutting down an anemic Bills offense, but Schotty just had to prove how smart he is by having Sanchez throw the ball when the game would have been sealed if Sanchez just handed the ball off to the RBs for the entire 2nd half (like Clemens in the TB game). That game was not Sanchez' fault and the CS almost damaged his psyche for good.

I hate to bring up 1999 (I'M REALLY SORRY), but the team was in this exact same position in the '99 offseason, searching for a viable backup behind Vinny. Parcells ended up settling for Mirer, and I think he won out against Zolack.

We need to bring someone in who can take over IF something happens to Sanchez. This is very important.

Ray Lucas looks like he's stayed in shape.

I admit, the New Orleans game was bad, but was it bad enough you had to mention it twice?

@NE was the 4th game. I'm surprised I didn't typo NE twice instead of NO.

I wasn't upset with his rookie regular season, but I had hoped for a little bit more with the offensive line and running game we had to take pressure off him, especially since I knew how good the rest of our team was.

He just didn't have any bigtime moments in the regular season where he showed he was the man. He was fine. But his postseason was extremely promising.
