You guys are being way too hard on Jtrain. I've always liked Mawae and I appreciate what he did for us. I'd be up for a one day contract too so he can retire as a Jet. /Respect

i dont get ppl's problem with this thread. i thought it was interesting, especially with the faneca connection. personally, i'd like mawae to stay in the league just so i can watch jenkins blow him up. again. don't forget he was axed from our beloved jets for the same reason he can't get a job right now. the only good locker room laywer is a dead locker room laywer.

Wow, this explains alot. Last week, on "draft-eve," I saw a man and woman approaching me, walking down the sidewalk. I did a double-take because the guy was a dead-ringer for Mawae, and sure enough it was him. I stopped him (see celebrities all day in my area, lots of agencies/producers nearby, never stop any of them) with something to the effect of "Holy Crap, Mawae!" He was really cool about it, asked my name, I thanked him for being such a big part of the Jets for so long, AND WISHED HIM WELL AS HE FINISHES UP WITH TENN. He and his wife looked at each other and he was like "uggh, thanks." The whole thing lasted 30 seconds at the most, no photos, no autographs. Now I can see why he gave me that odd look towards the end of our encounter.
The purpose of cutting Faneca was to save money and to get his contract off the books for next year. If mawae wanted to end his career w/ the team he is most known for and came cheaply I would definitely take a look. I still expect at some point to add a vet G as insurance.
Actually he got axed by the Jets for his little "eggshell" comment about Pennington. Not that I would disagree with Mawae's statement, but you don't undermine the QB you are supposed to protect. I think it is true that he can't land a job because of his NFLPA association but I also think it isn't fair. He was always talked about as a great vet and locker room presence. Having him as a b/u is not a bad idea. Mawae is still a top 5 center in the league. Him playing at center for the Titans at 38y.o, legitimizes the questions of why the Jets cut Faneca at 33y.o. I'm all in favor of the youth movement but the Jets are all in for 2010 and having AF around to groom his replacement would have been a smart move. I wish we had an insider to tell us what the Jets were REALLY thinking...
jtrain. Your threads get worse all the time. The Jets have no need to sign a 39 year old center when they have one of the best in the business in Mangold, and one of the toughest.

He's not a zone blocker, he's far over the hill, and he's the opposite direction we're going on the offensive line. Hell no. But if you had asked me who would start this thread, I would have told you jtrain and put 50 bucks on it.
Lets sign John "Jumbo" Elliott, he's 45 years old. If we need we could put him at wide-out. If we were going to keep aging lineman we would've kept the man who was already paid and knows the system.

According to "an unnamed player" in the Titans locker room, Kevin Mawae could still come in and start for a number of teams, as long as they don't run a 3-4 defense with a nose tackle of any discernible talent. I've never disliked a more valuable player on this team more than I disliked Mawae. What a bigmouth. -X-
Again, the trouble with that idea is that he can't come cheaply enough. Izzo would have to sign for him to even get the vet minimum at his level. He's what, a 15 year vet? The top vet minimum starts at 11 seasons accrued. Of our remaining FAs, only Izzo can say the same. Dearth, Douglas, and Fowler won't get us enough cash to sign Mawae under league rules, unless you think one of them will get more than the minimum.
