Alright, now that his contract has been restructured to include incentives, and Rex has decided to put him back at DE, who thinks the Ghost will actually contribute to our defense this season? I'll say by the end of the season he'll have accumulated 1.5 sacks, and people will think of him as decent enough for depth, but nothing more.
I think he will provide depth but nothing more... 2-3 sacks most I'm glad we will be almost done with him
I think that there is no way to look at stats and see if he performed well or not, we will have to watch.
6 sacks. Simple math. It takes 2 guys to block him. 25 defensive snaps x 16 games = 400 snaps. Calvin Pace, Jason Taylor. 2 games against Buffalo. In order to believe that Gholston does not accrue 6 sacks, you need to believe that in 400 snaps, the tackle to is side isn't going to go 'Oh shit...there goes Pace/Taylor' and leave Gholston alone on a guard (FYI Gholston bench presses a guard and half) nearly 100% of the time. With his power and speed the instruction 'on the snap, go straight 3 yards.look over..tackle ball carrier' goes a long way, without learning all the details of coverage they were trying to teach him as a LB.
Guarantee has has 15-18, sacks 35 TFL, and at least 85 tackles. Well either that or he doesn't leave the bench and does absolutely nothing for our team, just like the year before.... And the year before that.
How can people be predicting he gets a multiple sack year, when he has 0 sacks in his career, and was playing the most sack happy position in a 3-4 defense the OLB? Now he is moving into the area of the 3-4 where you are not supposed to be the pass rusher, and the average 3-4 DE get 1-2 sacks a year. Above average players get 3-5 and the truly elite get 6-10. Does anyone really think gholston even qualifies as an average player at another brand new position?
hes proven nothing as of yet but my question is what do people think that his problem is? he had a good college career and its not like hes not athleticly fit poor work ethic? lack of instincts? heart & heads just not in the game?
I think he will be great at preventing penalties on defense.....no more of those ten men on the field flags..... If I was too subtle, he is really good as a placeholder, a warm body. That's harsh, but that is about all he has shown to be good for.
He was pretty close to getting a sack a few times last season. I don't know how much playing time he will get, but I wouldn't be surprised if he accidentally sacks the quarterback once or twice.
This is his make it or break it year for him. If he does not produce, they will cut after this year. Hopefully he will pan out this year.
