Must've only had two picks if it's vintage Vinny.

Obviously someone was not around in 1998 when Vinny had the bst season of any Jets QB EVER.

I don't care what h did anywhere else. Vinny had the best season ever by a Jets QB and if his teammates showed up in Denver we'd have a SB. Vinny was the primary starter for 3 years and we made 2 POs and were over. 500 in the 3rd. As a long time jet fan you know how success like that is very difficult to come by around here.

^Every time I think my subconscious mind has succeeded in blocking that out, there it is, once again resurrected. I don't have any sandpaper to rub across my face, so I guess this nice cozy bowl of gravel will have to do. Mmm-mmm!

Nah, take one on the chin for the team for Old Time's Sake. I'm sure some former washed up Jet can sell you some jalopy off of his used car lot. You can start with Johnnie Mitchell.

I didn't get to actually see Namath play, but a SB win, by default, automatically qualifies as a better season than anything else to me. Personal stats mean squat when all is said and done. That shiny trophy says who has the best seasons.

And please stop with the "if his teammates showed up." His teammates didn't throw interceptions in the AFCC game. Vinny did. You can point the finger at poorer play in the second half all around, you can point the finger at a change in defensive scheme in the second half. It doesn't change the fact that Vinny threw his usual INTs, and they led to points for Denver.

Vinny was never more than a glorified gunslinger.

Now where is Jetsrock chiming in? He sniffs out Vinny threads like a bloodhound.

Replace "Vinny threads" with "Vinny's trashbags in a landfill" and you would be right.

Vinny started throwing INts late in that game when they ahd to pass to get back in it. he didn't fumble at midfield like Curtis, he didn't fumble at the 10 like Byars, he didn't fmble deep in den territory like van Dyke. he badly outplayed Elway that day.

Vinny's '98 season was by far the best. Remember Joe only had to win 1 home game to get to the SB(and if not for an event in oak the game would have been in oak). Vinny's #s were spectacular and they were leading us to wins. he was 13-1 in the reg season, Joe was 11-3. By your logic I guess Dilfer's '00 season was better than any of Joe's since his team won more games and completely dominated the SB.

vinny was a special, special qb that season and all this anti-vinny stuff is not warrented....the man had as much heart as any player ever to put on the uniform...his int's were disgusting at times, but his big moments like in the 98 season and the MNM were like that which we havent seen around here for a long long time...i'll always think fondly of the vin....he for sure is not any reason we havent won shit

Keep in mind that the Monday Night Miracle never would have happened had Vinny not thrown 3 picks in the first half of the game. That could have just been Easy Win on Monday Night.

People can trash Vinny and his career was certainly not perfect but it was certainly not bad.

Throw out the Tampa Bay years and his TD/INT ratio is a very good 192/159. Thats a very good career for most players. Look at the players Vinny played with most of his career. Awful team after awful team. He never had a decent set of WR's. The best WR he ever had might have been his one year playing with Keyshawn.

If he had just been on average teams his entire career he might have had a remarkly different career. But he consistently was on the worst of the worst NFL teams. The best team he played on was the Jets and their talent was average at best with little for offensive threats. It can be argued that he didn't make his teams better and that he often made poor decisons. But generally don't bad teams make players look worse. Especially QB's when your always playing from behind your stats will be much worse.

What I will remember Vinny most for is being a team player, tough guy, durable and a player who never blamed others. He was a guy that just needed a bit of luck in his career. With a little bit of luck he could have been a hall of famer. He will never be regarded as a great QB but he was a good QB, a stand up guy, respected player, hard worker, and one of the main reasons the why the Jets pulled themselves out of a decade of losing football. I am very grateful to Vinny not only for the 98 season but for helping revive a dead franchise.

Couldn't agree more. Namath was a bad QB his last few years because he was playing with a bad team. You can also look at Archie Manning, bad team, bad QB. How good would have Manning been with a good team? We will never know.

I don't know. With post #4 (which I still can't figure out) this thread went weird.
