I agree with most of the positional evaluations, and I think we're better overall than last year. If I may add one positional upgrade left out so far: Rex 2.0 Rex 2.0 uses timeouts on Miami's last drive of the Monday night game, and leaves Sanchez almost a full 2 minute drill to win it. Rex 2.0 takes the "freeway" page of the playbook and burns it on the sideline during Jacksonville's last drive. Rex 2.0 (probably) doesn't kickoff AGAIN to the guy who just lit us up for a TD. And most importantly, when things get tough this year (and let's not kid ourselves - they will), and Rex tells this locker room "don't panic and good things will happen", he's got results to back it up.
^Good points, Milo. Although I remember hearing that Westhoff wanted to kick away from Ginn, at least the second time. Both of Feelys' kicks wound up going down dead center down the field. Rex put so much confidence in is defense stopping the Fins in the first game that you knew there was no way he was going to start taking timeouts during the final drive. He probably would have felt it was a slight to his defense. Hopefully since then he learned that it could have been a help for them, if only to give himself a chance to regroup and change his strategy and give his players a rest. It would have been a plus regardless of the outcome: -Dolphins score: Offense has some time to try and mount a comeback. -Dolphins don't score: His defense gets a few moments to rest and catch their breaths, the Jets take over with enough time to at least push the ball down the field a few more yards and punt to put them in worse field position. Fuck what Mark Schlereth said after the game about it being a sign of no confidence in his defense. Taking those timeouts could have helped either side of the team.
2009 RUSHING stats Richadson: CAR 7 YDS 48 AVG 6.9 TDS 0 McClain: CAR 46 YDS 180 AVG 3.9 TDS 2 at this rate hypothetically speaking Richardson with the same number of carries as McClain would have rushed for 312 yards please know what your talking about before you post is it that he cant rush or that its not what Brian Schottenheimer wants to incorporate? Think about it....
Yeah, this may be the biggest downgrade in the history of football. No, wait, thats JaMarcus Russell. Nevermind.
Mc'Clain had 900 yards prior to last season before the emergance of Ray Rice, and they used Willis McGahee too. Richardson's average is so high because the few times he does run it gets the defense by surprise, if he had more carries his average would definitely drop. You really can't argue that Richardson is a better rusher than Mc'Clain, so you should please know what you are talking about too.
Did you see this? http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1694894&postcount=46 its pretty rare for me to be completely fucked-up-big incorrect. Blame Rex Ryan for my swagger.
Richardson's 09 rushing average puts him all top 10 running backs in the league this past season. That doesn't make him a better running back than any of them. He has a high average from 09 than McClain because he carried the ball fewer times. Yes, he can run with the rock but when he does, he gets most of his yards based on the fact that not too many people see it coming. A much fairer argument would be to compare the years where they got their career highs in carries. Best seasons rushing: Code: Carries Yards AVG Yds/Gm TDs Lng Richardson(2000): 147 697 4.7 43.6 3 33 McClain(2008): 232 902 3.9 56.4 10 82T McClain's best year as a rusher is better and more recent than Tony Richardson's. McClains numbers dropped last season when Harbaugh shifted away from his situational platoon over to Ray as a full-time starter with McGahee and McClain splitting backup and change of pace carries. McClain's recent past as a rushing option tends to draw attention from the defense during preparation while no one really expects Richardson to be taking too many handoffs. McClain scored more TDs, gained more yards, and had a much better long run than Richardson. McClain is a better runner than Richardson. End of story.
my point was never that he was better rusher, the argument was he says hes a more versitile back Im just proving the fact that he can run if need be, and as far as blocking goes hes strides better in that department and if were looking at previous numbers look at McClains 2007 season in compairison
Simply saying that he is a better blocker doesn't provide evidence that he is a better blocker. You mean his rookie season under Billick? You're using statistics from a Ravens offense headed by Brian Billick to try and prove a point about an offensive player?
The only potential issue I see that everyone is talking about is chemistry. I see why some players are complaining about some leaders be cut/traded. But I think with Rex leading the charge and a combination of others stepping up and developing as leaders in the locker room such as Sanchez, Mangold, J-Co, etc along with adding leaders and the remaining ones from last year such as Revis, LT, Jenkins, Scott, Taylor, etc our locker room may be stronger then before. Everyone is dialed in and focused on the task at hand and that is winning a Super Bowl. I understand the logic but I don't see chemistry issues happening with this Jets team. When it comes to the roster as a whole, the quality of players we added this off season easily outweighs the players who left. We have gotten much better this past year. Our depth charts are deeper and more versatile almost across the board. We have an excellent trio of players at many positions with completely different skill sets such as RB, CB, WR, and OLB. We are much better prepared to deal with many different scenarios than we were last year. Last year the expectations in training camp were to make it to the playoffs. Not by us we just wanted to be decent, but by the coaching staff. Now the expectations as a whole is Super Bowl or bust. That should speak volumes of how much we have improved from a year ago.
well theres many situational circumstances that account for why I believe him to be the better blocker none of which can be summed up in statistics. Like how many 1,000+ yard backs have been running behind him in his career, consecutively (Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Thomas Jones) the thing is at no point did I try to claim that Richardson was the better runner (I even agree that McClain is a better runner), but at the same time hes never been givin the opportunity that McClain has either to run like in your compairison of his 2000 season and McClains 08, Richardson had 85 less attempts so its only natural that hes going to have more TD's it only makes sence the only point I wanted to make was that I think he is more versitile in my opinion thats it
I agree ... If Greene goes down with an injury for any length of time, we're fucked. Can't pass the ball, unless you can run it first ... and I have no faith in LT between the tackles. We'd be in alot of trouble.
