Former Oregon running back and undrafted free agent LeGarrette Blount has agreed to contract terms with the Tennessee Titans, spurning the San Francisco 49ers, a team official confirmed on Monday morning.

The 49ers can blame the Seahawks for free-agent running back LeGarrette Blount's decision to sign with the Titans after agreeing to terms with San Francisco, writes Mike Sando.

Blount had initially agreed with the Niners, but changed his mind after talking to Titans coach Jeff Fisher on Sunday, according to The (Nashville) Tennessean. Since he had not signed a contract, he was free to change his mind.

"I'm not sure quite what happened, but I think it kind of fell in our lap a little bit," Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt told "The Wake Up Zone" on 104.5 FM in Nashville.

"He's a different kind of halfback than the running backs we have and I think the opportunity is probably better here than it was in San Francisco," Reinfeldt said, noting the Niners have Frank Gore and Glen Coffee on the roster and took Anthony Dixon of Mississippi State in the draft. "They have three kinds of power halfbacks. [Blount's] a different dimension for us."

Room opened in the Titans' backfield when the team traded running back LenDale White to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, during the NFL draft.

The Titans also signed undrafted USC running back Stafon Johnson.

Blount was suspended for much of the 2009 season at Oregon after punching a Boise State player who taunted him immediately following the Ducks' season-opening loss. He also confronted fans yelling at him from the stands and had to be escorted from the field by coaches and security personnel.

He was reinstated late in the season after meeting a number of conditions.

Reinfeldt told "The Wake Up Zone" that the Titans did their research on Blount before making him an offer.

"We talked to the kid, we talked to Tony Dungy, who counseled the young man some, I think we spent a lot of time talking to the coaches there. I think we felt that it was probably the right thing to give him an opportunity," Reinfeldt said. "From a talent standpoint, he's a good player. ... Jeff and I talked to a number of people, so we're OK with that decision."

Blount rushed for 1,002 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior at Oregon. He had 82 yards on 22 carries in his suspension-shortened senior year.

ESPN.com AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky contributed to this report.

If LeGarrette Blount can reach his full potential with the Titans than that is going to be an amazing one-two combination with Chris Johnson. Then, the corps only gets better if Stafon Johnson can play up to his ability as well.

How much would it suck to be a defender and get killed trying to catch Chris Johnson all game, only to see LeGarrette Blount coming down the hill at you on the next play?

That depends, is Blount going to punch you after a clean tackle?

I thought he would fall due to his actions, but neveer expected him to go undrafted. This kid has a lot of hurdles to over come and hopefully Fisher can get the best out of him.

Chip Kelly helped turn his attitude around a lot. Hopefully the two still remain in contact.

Better choice for him. Depth Chart for #1 reason but also because Tennessee is less in the spotlight then San Fran. Truthfully I hope he fails as a player.

The Titans may never throw a pass this year.

You're going to have the highest character guy in Myron Rolle, and the lowest in Blount.

I think he deserved to be undrafted after his actions

its such a privlage to be given the opportunity to play in the NFL and in college, it just shows what little respect so many players have for the game and the fans those guys dont deserve it

that might actually be the worst possibly wording of an expression under the circumstances huh? Either way though, Johnson has a very slim chance of making the titans roster, and has to pray he makes it on the practice squad now.

I dont know how much Bount would play, as a player he looked pretty amazing I think he will be a good package option at this point. I dont know if the Titans want to take that many carries away from a 2,000 yard rusher

So he's a bum because a better deal came along and he took it?

If you want to call him a bum for punching a guy during a game then fine, but the bussiness side of football works both ways and as a UFDA he has the right to get the most money available.

If San Fran wanted him so damn bad they should have drafted him and given him no choice.

Bingo. At some point in the 7th, it actually can become better to go undrafted because you can choose to go where you feel you have the best chance of making a roster. The only thing Blount is guilty of is making a poor initial choice with the 49ers. It was a poor fit, and he corrected it.

+1. He had almost no chance of making that roster. He actually could help the Titans.

I think Blount has a far better chance of contributing compared to Stafon.

He'll be given every opportunity to fill the LenDale role on that offense.
