Just a harmless discussion for a rainy Monday here. At the moment, who is the best pitcher in NY? Pelfrey or Pettitte? Pelfrey: 4-0, 0.69 ERA (WHIP: 1.19) Pettitte: 3-0, 1.29 ERA (WHIP: 1.07) I honestly think Pettite. His age and the fact that he's doing it in the American League. Yeah, my reasons are very bland, but that's why I said a harmless discussion.
CC Sabathia. EDIT: You're talking about this season so far? I'd say Pettite over Pelfrey since Pettite has better career averages, and he's way more reliable in clutch situations.
What? He is talking about this season, and you acknowledge that. And then you bring in career averages. That being said, Petitte has faced far better competition and performed just as good.
If i were a GM I'd much rather have the younger Pelfrey, then old ass Andy. Both are having phenomenal starts to the season, but neither is the best pitcher on their team, never mind in NY. I personally don't think the AL east is that good anymore, Sox are getting old and Baltimore is terrible. Toronto has never been anything special. Rays look good, Yankees, well they're the yankees. NL East on the other hand other then Washington has some decent ball clubs. We shall see only time will tell.
Pelfrey gave up 2 runs in the first inning he pitched this year and hasn't given up a run since. I don't see how you put someone else ahead of him.
Atlanta, Chicago, Colorado, Washington. or Anaheim, Texas, Anaheim, Boston Who has faced the better competition?
Top 5 Pitchers in NY according to FIP http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/statpages/glossary/#fip According to MLB Rank 1. Johan Santana (7) 2. Andy Pettitte (9) 3. CC Sabathia (22) 4. Mike Pelfrey (24) 5. A.J. Burnett (47) Top 5 in MLB 1. Jonathan Sanchez (Giants) 2. Tim Lincecum (Giants) 3. Roy Halladay (Phillies) 4. Brett Anderson (Athletics) 5. Randy Wells (Cubs)
between those two I would say Pettite. But by my standard the best pitcher in New York is Mo Rivera, and K Rod isnt close
This debate is obviously biased but you have to look at whos doing what in what league and CC Sabathia and Petite are great pitchers in a m uch more difficult league and division than the mets.
Its amazing how guys like jeter and pettite just refuse to die. It seems like pettite has been 38 for years now.
Yeah, it's almost Pettitte has some sort of magical elixir that improves his performance despite the fact one would assume his natural ability would diminish due to age. Not actually serious, I'm sure he's clean (now)
