I would guess that it went something like the following:

FO: Restructure your contract or we'll cut you. And you know that nobody else is interested. But, we'll give you a chance to earn the money back if you play better."
    VG: Yeah.....you're right.

1 sack this year atleast. Don't care what team it comes from either.

What if he gets a game winning safety??? All the gholston supporters (the little that are left) would be flying to this forum just to say "i knew he would some day perform!"

Tannenbaum: Vernon, can you come out onto the practice field, please?

    Gholston: Sure thing, coach.

Tannenbaum: [grumbles under his breath] Dumbass...

Rex: OK, Vernon we've gone and replaced The Matador's red pussy jersey with the pages of your old contract. You have 40 seconds to chase his little ass down.

Tannenbaum: If you catch him, you keep the old contract. If you fail, you have to sign this restructured one.

Rex: ...and Matador gets another night with your girlfriend!

Gholston: Sounds a little weired bu...wait, what do you mean by another?

Rex: SHUT UP AND RUN, PUSSY!

Shaun Ellis should had stay an outside LB, like he was when first drafted by the Jets. John Abeham was an outsede LB when started with the Jets. Both of them got sacks.

Ellis never played outside linebacker. There was actually a time when they tried to move him to DT.

What other suggestions do you have? Hopefully Rex reads these boards.

What pisses me off is that if Gholston were at least half of what we expected him to be, we'd have an absolutely lethal defense.

The real question is what the length of the restructured contract is. Can the Jets shorten his contract and pay him salary due in the last two years up front now? Under normal circumstances I think that would violate salary cap rules since it would retroactively increase the cap numbers in previous years in the contract, however there is no cap this year and there are no cap-related restrictions in place.

If the Jets just turned his original 5 year contract into a 3 year job with money coming forward in a payment this year then they also removed cap restrictions moving forward based on the signing bonus. Gholston gets cash up front that he would never see otherwise and the Jets can cut him next year with no cap problem.

I'd be curious if that's legal under the no-cap rules this year. They didn't just suspend the cap they replaced it with a no cap rule for the year.

That's true and entirely possible with the high numbers of game winning safeties in this league. If there's one thing a team with a tie or one point lead is frequently known to do, it's drop back into the end zone to pass.

It was Ghost who requested that his contract be restructured according to NFL Network

Totally not convinced he's going to do anything. Last year it was the meetings and workouts with LT to motivate him. This year the "voluntary" salary restructuring. May have to face it, the kid isn't making the transition into the NFL. I hope I'm wrong on this one.

He'll probably tie up a few blockers and let some of the linebackers make a few plays. Aside from that, I'm not expecting too much.

all im saying is remember bryan thomas

he was absolute garbage his first 2 seasons too, everyone said he was a bust who would never amount to anything, and he finally figured it out and became a productive player

gholston still has a chance to be useful

+1 I'm with you dude.. as long as Ghost is in green and white, I'm pulling for him. Still think he can prove something, and I love the move to DE

Bryan Thomas turned into a less successful version of Calvin Pace. I'm not sure what other Jets fans are expecting of this. Rex is not exactly putting him into a position where it is going to be easy to get sacks or TFLs. He's going to be asked to do in one position exactly what he was maligned for doing in his previous one. I doubt there is going to be any major increase in his stats.

gholston asked to have his contract restructured? i don't buy that.

here is my scenario. tanny calls the ghost's agent and tells him that they have a new role for ghost but they want him to re-do his deal or he is getting cut. after a meeting between gholston and his agent they call the jets to "request" the restructured deal
