The last three days are a ringing endorsement of Mike DeVito, if you ask me. The fact that the Jets entered this draft thinking offensive guard (where we had a pro bowl starter) was the number one priority tells me that while they might have liked to take a DE, they sure as hell didn't feel they needed to.
What's with our obsession of OLBs with names ending in "n"? Jason, Calvin, Bryan, Vernon, and now Kevin???
lol I found this part of his scouting report interesting Best Case Scenario: Mario Williams. The blend of size and quickness could lead to a lot of sacks without being a weakness against the run. Worst Case Scenario: Vernon Gholston. Simply put, he might not pan out a la Gholston. Defensive end is a difficult position to scout and disappointments are abundant at the position. Sounds like the guy woulda gone early if he played another year, could be a steal. Im guessing were gonna use him as an OLB not a DE though ?
Hell yeah. I like Kevin Basped. He was a TFL machine at Nevada. Rex seems to like these Nevada front seven players - we already have Ezra Butler and Josh Mauga on our current roster.
MrE what happened with Lonyae Miller and that Fresno St WR whose name I can't spell? Edit: And AJ Jefferson Weren't they all supposed to get drafted?
Lonyae Miller is terrible. The guy had a halfway decent combine, but he was always a third string back at Fresno State. For a guy that weighs 230 pounds, Miller runs like he's 185. I'm really surprised Seyi didn't get drafted, especially with all of the praise that came from Marty Schottenheimer. Oh well. I think Aji has a great shot to make a team even though he wasn't drafted. Just saw the AJ Jefferson edit: I hate AJ Jefferson. Fresno lost to the Cincy Bearcats last season because he couldn't cover Mardy Gilyard to save his life. The guy's a hell of a return man, but he's got close to no value at corner...he can't tackle or cover.
Really happy about Basped. He could easily make the roster as a UDFA, great body to move back to OLB, long arms and athletic. He could stand to add some bulk as he gets older, but I think he's got a ton of potential to turn into a passrush specialist. Not saying he'll be a stud, but could be a guy to be the third LB when Taylor leaves in 2 years. Love the Donovan Warren pickup too, should be able to compete for a spot.
